It is so bizarre - having been away for 4 months, how things change, yet stay the same!!
When I hung my boots up for good (Hmmmm we shall see) I was so glad to get away from the nasty. bitchiness of my yard - BUT SINCE I HAVE BEEN BACK IN MY POSH SPORTS CAR AND ABLE TO WALK, EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED!!
i LOVE THE YARD....! IT IS FAB!
I cannot believe how much I have missed it = all the bitches are moving and all the people I did not know are lovely!
So there you are - 38 hours and counting.....

I am not on a yard anymore, and I love it. My horses are outside my window, they live out so I can do what I like, when I like and how I like, and no-one has any reason to smile sweetly and then bitch behind my back.

Previous yard I was at for 5 or 6 years I think, time isn't important, there were the usual mix, but oh boy! Some days the atmosphere! Bitching abounded, but mainly that dreadful two faced type. Some I really miss, Hi Sarah, others, ships that pass in the night...........

Posh sports car.........lucky you

OH had to sell his when I got too pregnant to get out of it. We'd never have got the baby on the parcel shelf anyway.

Move to Canada then you can have land AND the posh car.......easy move for midwives I believe. No more sports cars for us, not until they pave our roads here anyway, besides, you can't put a round bale in the back of one

We have a truck the size of a shed and we could never have afforded to run that in the UK, Tia's is waaaaaaaaaaaay larger than ours though! we parked next to one like hers the other day and our truck looked like a Mini beside it!

I don't know that island (the only one I've been to is Vancouver Island which I think is about the size of the UK!) but then I'm land locked in Southern Ontario for now, Tia or Emma69 may know. I'm off to Google it now!

Here we are, Gabriola Island. Have you been there? I've been to Nanaimo though. we wanted to live on V.I. but too expensive for us at the moment, time will see. I am told that we'll never want to leave Ontario, hmmmmm, I know that I won't be yearning to go and live in YellowKnife though where a friend tells me that a good day is -35C

My yard is fab, quite big but the only b**** is now a complete wimp of a child who's mum comes up with her every time and watches her muck out, poo pick and waits on the yard till she comes back from hacks. Everyone else is lovely it is a fair size yard as it is a RS but I seriously love it not many yards when your horse if off work you still end up riding almost every day!

apparently, talking to boyfriend, we're going to buy a house in the country with two stables! I'm really not going to fight that one!

I love my yard, don't get me wrong, but I'd give my right arm to be back on my parents yard - no bitchiness!

I have my horse at my friends farm. I'm the only livery. Treat the place and horses as my own.

Magic!

lucky b*tch! x

I have just moved to my own yard and it is fab! I have 5 stables and 6 acres, just have one other person on there with her three and its working very well. Moved from a big livery yard where there was some dreadful bitchin!, got hassled for lifts all the time, coud'nt put anything down or it got pinched! Then you would turn up and there would be a new horse in your field without you even being told!

Me and horsey are much happier at new place!

I keep mine at home but sometimes think that it would be nice to be on a yard and have company, indoor facilities and always have someone to ride with. But at least I can slip out of bed feed the horses in my jarmies and get back into bed on cold winter mornings

I went from a big yard to my friends, and did wonder if I would miss all that company and people to ride out with. I can, with hand on heart, say I haven't. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy company and it's lovely to bump in to friends. But really you are not missing being on a big yard at all.

The beastie lives at a smallish yard (20 or so) that is a RS and livery yard and on the whole it is great, always got good advice about anything and everything, they've taught me everything I know (stable management and riding) we have had some nasty people but they move on pretty quickly, so I have had 10 happy years there.

I have 4 ponies at home and 2 horses at a friends place just up the road. There is one other person up at my friends place so I kind of have the best of both worlds. I miss a good ol gossip sometimes but not all the yard politics and winging...

Our yard is lovely, Me and acmissy is the only ones that use the stabling (apart from tulsa) whos owner we never really see, shes a grass livery majority of the time, We are the only one that uses the sand school . Its not a massive yard , we have 8 stables all lovely and big . A nice dressage arena with a full set of jumps, 7 paddocks and nice quiet roads to hack around . Yo is away for 14 days so has left us in charge , all 3 other horses are out on grass livery . Its a nice atmosphere as we come and go as we please and more or less treat it as our own , inlcuding the horse and pony that yo has, we exercise them for her .

I love my yard, haven't experienced any bitching and Im not the type to be bothered by that kind of thing anyway.
I like having people to talk to, and ask advice from and mainly I enjoy having people to ride with etc. When I had my own yard I missed that terribly.

Our yard used to be full of nasty people (fortunately we have several small yards). We have 4 in our little yard and have got rid of the pain and everyone else is just lovely. What you see is what you get with regards to the YO. The new liveries on the other yards are also lovely and you feel would do anything for you. Also more professional people now that have proper jobs so do not have time to stay at yard and slate people. We do have 1 kid who is a particular menace though - but think YO is removing her shortly

Was at a RS livery yard and hated the way I saw loooked down on and that they got 1st say of my pony even when I wanted to take him away....

Now I LOVE my yard. There is about 6 livery owners who come up the rest send their horses there for re-schooling etc. Such a fun yard , YO is brilliant and always finds you something to ride and has built the yard from and old piggary and now has a floodlite school 10 stable loads of turnout and a lunge pen. Due for new washrooms etc to be out in!
LOVE IT!

Unusually for a livery yard, there's a nice atmosphere at mine (it's a mix of ages, and professional and amateur owners) and everyone tries to help each other when needed.
I've experienced the madness of livery yard owners on too many occasions though (middle aged women going insane!)

I am now at my friends yard. Just mine, one other 'livery' and her (1 horse, 4 ponies) horses. My horse is much happier because there are no dogs/children running around and we never have to share the school. We all get on and my OH has noticed I come home from the yard in a much better mood these days.

I have been to some really good yards in the past but even so, I don't think I ever want to go back to being on a big yard.

Mine isn't too bad....

We have 15 stables and 8 liveries (some have 2 horses... some are the YOs). It's a competition yard where most are on full schooling livery so theres a couple of liveries who you don't see very often anyway. A couple also spend more time abroad than they do in the UK...

One of the liveries is the type who looks down on everyone else.. (ironic, since we have a couple of GP riders on the yard and the person in question is lucky to stay on her horse for the duration of a lesson :| ) but most keep themselves very much to themselves really.

The stables are in blocks and I share with one person who is never seen and a young girl who rides at GP level and she's really lovely.

The YO is a really nice person although the head boy is probably bitchier than the rest of us put together.

It gets rather elitist up there I think... and we've had problems in the summer with the younger liveries or younger people in for training (my trainer is heavily involved in BYRDs and the girls tend to be terribly competitive).

Anyway, I always tended to ride quite late when most people had already left (with exception of the other girl in my block) so tbh, I dont see people that much. But moving soon anyway :|

Our yard is lovely only about 5 or 6 of us. We all get on really well bar one who can be a little madam at times but shes half my age and me being something of a matriarch up there can sort her out. We have nice facilities, I have individual fields for my horse and pony, and the company of some lovely horses - especially Auntie Jo's lovely boys!

We have 15 stables & 13 liveries, we all get on pretty well although there is some bitching, I've been there nearly ten years and have only had a couple of arguements during that time, the facilities suit my needs (YO isn't great at maintaining things) and both my horse and pony are very settled and it's a 5 minute drive from where I live so I wouldn't move unless it closed down for some reason.

I am the only livery at my yard. It is a small yard of 5 boxes, tack room and hay barn/feed room. Smoke detectors in each stable linked to the house where the owner lives. 5 acres of grazing with wooden post and electric fencing. 3 horses, my 2 and the owners 1. At the moment there is no school but that should be resolved by the end of the summer. The owner is lovely, really easy going and practical, we help each other out and the 3 horses get on well. We might possibly get a 4th person in over the next few months if we are able to rent some extra grazing, but it would be someone reliable and through word of mouth (no nutters wanted!!). I really love it there and once the school goes in it will be perfect

Moving to a new one on Friday. Seems nice. School. Farm ride (large fields) some cattle, couple of dogs who my dog likes, 2 sisters and their horses (they own the place) one other livery and me at the mo although I think they are trying to get a few more.Yard just getting going. Plenty of turnout.
