So on the subject of winter, when do you start to bring your horses in?
No idea when Radders will be brought in. will leave it to YO although atm he is in as he is lame

Do you wait for bad weather or do you have a set date to work by?

o dear, I guess it is usually once we start clipping, he is loosing his coat now so wont be too long, although very dependent on weather.

They dont come in-period! They have shelter if they wanted it, altho they never use it.

Altho must say, my comp mare was stabled from around October time, as didnt want to risk her when it got muddier!

When the weather gets consistently bad they come in at night - usually november but this year looking at weather forecast will prob be nearer end of november/beginning december.

Depends on the weather, but I'll hold off as long as possible (usually until his mud fever appears and his frogs disintegrate!). Last couple of years he's come in at the start of December. At my old yard they came in when the clocks change, but that always felt too early.

Ours are lucky enough to stay out 24/7/365 and luckily for us they are all happy with that.

mine can stay out 24/7 if wanted so il play it by ear, if hes holding his weight and is happy then he can stay out for as long as possible, usually end of november though last year it was begining of october as they all got abscesses then then weather turned really cold so couldnt put him back out 24/7 from living in

Normally around October time but this year I am going to try him out 24/7 with his rug on as he can come and go as he pleases into his field stable and he likes this set up.

I have absolutely NO intention of bringing them in, at all

Obviously, there is a barn there if the situation arises but they are all a lot happier out with their routine. No mud (hopefully). They have run-ins if they want them (rarely), rugs and heated water, what more could a horse want?

Sleep, mooch to hay, mooch to water, back to hay, sleep, ad infinitum.

Yard usually want to bring in at nights from mid-September, grrr!! All fully clipped and starting harder work from then. But I hold out for as long as possible, looking mid Oct this year - modern rugs might as well be put to good use I think! Have field shelter and mine is a happy boy outside.

i bring solo in at the end of sept- hes much happier in and he feels the cold.
first winter that we've had red- with him being 17 i think he'll be in on bonfire night.
i dont really know why but i have always bought mine in on bonfire night.
