I have a 10 year old Irish Draught who needs to gain a bit of weight. He’s currently on herbal chaff and conditioning nuts together with micronised linseed and oil. I was thinking of adding some wheat feed to his diet. Is this advisable and does it make them fizzy? Any advice greatly received as he is my first horse. Thank you

Ad-lib Forage in the form of hay or haylage might be a better option rather than filling him full of grain. Going back many years we fed straights in the form of oats, barley and flaked maize but the horses were worked hard every day and didn’t have the opportunity to get fizzy but in today’s world with animals in such light work it might not be ideal.
