Not to be outdone by his dinky partner in crime, CS thoroughly polished his halo today
continuing the "keep his back warm" theme from Arena UK, he travelled in a fleece but when we arrived we piled a magnet pad and HW stable rug folded, over his quarters, and warmed up in a quarter sheet despite it being a bit muggy........and for whatever reason, this does seem to be making a huge difference.
He warmed up for AM92 very sweetly, trot perhaps not as nice as at Witham in the heat, but far far better than Arena last week, so moving in the right direction at least..........did a very neat test, no blips or even nearly blips and i felt like i really rode the canter work, half halted each time i should have, pushed him uphill through the corners etc and actually corrected him when he wasnt 100% on the aids (it would appear the trot is not only his weak point but mine too  ).
quick break, jacket swap, repatriation with test and back in for A102 aaaaaaaaaaaaand......i 90% rode the trot too! thank christ im finally learning how to ride!!! felt loads and loads better, so so nearly actually taking a pull!!!
canter felt fab, working piris not as good as they can be but hey ho, first time in the ring, tempis felt super confident (from both of us, i counted well and he never hesitated) and the only blooper was our final halt which was crooked in every direction lol!
loads of pats, grapes and jelly babies for the pony (which ive since discovered will test if he gets dope tested, so no more of those
) and went to get sheets.........over the moon to discovered we were 1st overall in AM92 (out of 6, 2nd was on 64%) with 67.3% and 1st out of 2 in A102 with 65% (2nd on 60%) so good solid scores.
This does leave me a small dilemma as had really given up on regionals this year as one thing after another (my back, his stomach) and it wasnt looking likely, but now i only need 1 more point!!!! Typically the only show i can get to is sat (summer qual end on sun) and is miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiles away..................but i think if i dont go, and dont give it a shot, ill kick myself??????
whatever i decide, im thrilled to bits with him, he was on side, concentrating and trying and i feel like the trot is coming togther in a more solid way, less moments of brilliance currently, but also less explosions, its steadily getting more consistant and expressive together in small steps
am intending to source a small, quiet venue for a PSG relatively soon and start on the AF PSG sheet mission.
