I am looking for a better wheelbarrow for poo picking the fields. 4 acres of relatively flat fields with a few rutted areas and 2 horses to clear up after. Looking for something easier to push and to take more of a load than my current 90ltr barrow to save trips back to the muck heap.

I’ve read so many recommendations on here but still I can’t make my mind up! So far on the list is a JFC 250ltr tipper with 2 wheels or the haemmerlin 110ltr one wheel. I’ve looked at powered makita or the Sherpa but really expensive for a wheelbarrow! Briefly looked at paddock vacs but these are even more than the powered wheelbarrows.

Are two wheels better than one in the fields eg through mud and ruts? Any other options for wheelbarrows for the ageing horsey lady!? Lol!

I like the gardenia ones, they are slightly bigger than your average b&q ones but pricier and I changed to a puncture proof tyre. It's lasted me 10 years.

I have a 2 wheel that I drag around with one hand and it is great and very stable on concrete or flat grass. Not so easy on ruts.
Bear in mind that although you will get a lot in 250l and it will be less trips but if it is anywhere near full it is going to be VERY heavy to move around on a field and especially over ruts or mud. It would be a nice barrow on flat concrete where it is easy to wheel.

Something like the haemerlin crusader may be a better choice.

Thank you everyone! Looks like the haemmerlin crusader is the one! I might also buy a 2 wheeler for the yard so can muck out 2 stables into one. Found a 2 wheeler Ox wheelbarrow 200ltr for £136 so that should do for the yard….. unless someone has had one of these and they’re not very good?

Im aspiring towards a smallish farm quad with a lightweight plastic tubbed tipper trailer that can take 250kg - ive seen secondhand for fair money - hehee - but currently I use a good old 1 wheeler 100ltr lightweight pushalong plastic tub generic wheelbarrow, and do hundreds of back and forths!

I have an ancient Hammelin - the tub is now held on with baler twine. I have a herd of wheelbarrows of unknown pedigree but it is the Hammelin that I choose to do the serious stuff.

We have a 2 wheeled job. No idea of the make but find it far too heavy to do a poo pick with. Because it has a big bucket your inclination is to fill it, and then you need the strength of 10 men to push it anywhere. The trusty B&Q orange one is the best for the poo pick.

Outstanding in my field!

I agree that the big and wide ones with the 2 wheels that are quite close together are pretty useless. They are unstable and the plastic bucket bit soon splits as you tip on the rim. Bad design.

My current 2 wheel one is a bit bigger than normal, like the ones linked above, but with 2 wheels, close together.

I also had a big green one with 2 wide apart wheels, the wheels were at the sides of the barrow so it was still stable. The bucket part was huge but low.
That one was fab around the yard but these days would be around £300 I think.

Thank you everyone! Who would have thought wheelbarrow buying was so hard! Lol! The decision to buy a yearling and chose one last month was much easier than buying a wheelbarrow! Lol!

A few more options are listed above so certainly worth a good review of them all. In the meantime I may see a second hand powered barrow if I’m lucky!

I bought a 2 wheeler, as I thought it would be great for poo picking - it isn't. It doesn't tip the poo out properly. So I just use it for hay now and wheeling in the bags of horse feed.
I've had a ball one and yes, the mud does cling to it, but it worked quite well on rough ground.

Another one that bought a big 2 wheeler thinking it would be great for poo picking.
Nah, it's much better suited to carting hay about and mucking out. I also find it very uncomfortable going along uneven ground, as the two wheels meant it juddered and bounced about as opposed to being able to steady and balance it with my hands as with a single wheeled barrow. Sure, it was harder for the horse to tip over, but they still managed it ?

I'm the opposite and find one wheelers so unstable. I offered to empty one the other day, I let go of a handle briefly and the whole thing span and upended depositing its contents in the middle of the barn.

me too. I have spent years with 1 wheel builders wheelbarrows and hate them. My 2 wheel stable barrow is so much nicer and more stable.
