Wheelbarrows v Camping / garden trolleys

For stay away shows when you have to walk miles from stables to lorry

Which do you prefer, a wheelbarrow or a garden trolley? For those using trolleys which makes are easy to fold and won’t fall apart over the first bumpy bit of ground.

I have recently acquired a camping trolley for this purpose. It has performed admirably on its one outing before the pony broke itself. The only thing I will say is that loose (recently cut) grass does gum up the wheels a bit and I suspect a wheelbarrow would cope better with badly rutted ground. I also doubt it would enjoy quagmire like mud.

I used to have a collapsible wheelbarrow which gave me many years of good service before the spare liner died and I couldn’t find a way to buy just a liner.

Can fit more crap in the trolley than I could in the barrow for sure although obv you then need a skip bucket for mucking out as you’d struggle to get a trolley onto most muck trailers so it would probably make mucking out take a bit longer.

Oh and it’s definitely a tighter squeeze to get up & down barn aisles with!

Some people use these as you can sit the water tub / muck tub in , then fill and wheel to where its needed

On the boatyard, the neighbours mostly have a collapsible trolley. More stable to wheel up and down pontoons due the effect of a sudden gust of wind making higher waves and bouncy planks difficult to negotiate.
If I have to take anything other than a caddy bag of rubbish out, I split the loads into seperate caddy bags and put them into seperate big bags.

18 months old and going strong still. go for larger rubber wheels as it wont tip over as easily on rough ground. And you just pull a loop up and the whole thing flat packs. Best thing I have ever bought. I regularly move ridiculous things in it, 50kg generators, furniture, huge sheets of aluminum, wood, as well as the more usual stuff.

I just usually take my mucking out wheelbarrow. I give it a good clean. It’s good on rough ground too. I’ve used it at camp for wheeling heavy water containers around and poo skips. At Hickstead Sunshine Tour I used it to wheel all my tack/ clothes etc. (I was doing in-hand and ridden) and grooming kit from the parking area to the arenas which are a fair distance apart and not level.

These are great, especially for holding water tubs in the stable, if you have a dodgy back like me you can just overturn them and pull out the tub, scrub clean, put back in and fill under the tap.

They are better with a house brick in or attached to the bar of the stable so they don't go walkabout with mischievous horses in the middle of the night

Had a foldable wheelbarrow never used it as tyre wouldn’t inflate. Bought second hand a tack trolley and used that but not the best on mud! Mainly use my mucking out wheelbarrow. Good wash before we go and take an empty feed bag to line it if need to carry clean things in it. If you have to fully muck out the temp stable really do need a proper barrow.
