My 13 year old I.d x has just started wheezing in trot and canter. Ok in walk, but very lethargic. No cough or nasal discharge. He lives out 24/7. Has no hard feed or hay. Any ideas why he has startec wheezing ?

not sure if exactly the same but had vet out on sat for my boy, after short lunge session on Friday he was really struggling and double breathing, he is fairly fit and did 2 pleasure rides last month so shouldn't have been breathing like he had been flat out galloping! Vet thinks it is an allergy, possibly to pollen/rape seed - maybe the same for your horse but would suggest a check with the vet? Mines being treated with ventipulmin. He also was dull and not himself, appeared quite depressed although was eating/drinking etc. Incidentally she also found him to be a bit lame in his n/s hind - don't think this is related though.

I would say its either an allergy or infection. I would be calling the vet. I would be a bit more concerned than if he was coughing something up, as at least then he would be clearing some of what ever if irritating his airway

one of mine used to get a bit out of breath and lethargic, it wasn't until he was treated that he would start to cough, then get better

its the final day of treatment today, breathing seems better but he has done no work due to lameness, I am going to trot him up tomorrow to check lameness and breathing issue will let you know if still seems bad - he didn't have this all of the time though he has had it a couple of times previously after riding, as he is barefoot I had thought he was feeling uncomfy over stones and didn't put it down to rape seed/pollen until Friday last week previous attacks were in spring he does seem much more himself though but he is also on bute for lameness so its difficult to tell whats making the difference. hope that helps!

My horse had a really bad allergy and could hardly breathe. He went onto different medications and none of them made much difference, as soon as he came off them he went backwards again. My vet then told me, reluctantly of a product called Pulmon Ez, as this is totally natural and it worked!! Went on it for 2 months and now manage it. Hope this helps.
