Mine has been in at night all summer because the grass has been growing like mad here this year. Usually I'd want her out 24/7 as late as possible. It's usually just after bonfire night when they go onto the winter field and the yard actually asks us to start bringing in

thanks all. im giving her a new bit of grass every day with wedge of hay split in AM and PM. but she just seems to be hanging around the gate a lot ( poos mainly there) so am wondering if she's telling me she'd rather be spending some time in her stable. i will step up the hay to see if that settles her as hay is always gone AM and PM.

please note, she does have plenty of grass coverage and a little strip of new grass every night.

I think the flies are still really bad at the moment, so it might be those in the day she wants to avoid. I did 2 years without stables (while getting planning / building) I had a huge delux field shelter bedded with straw and mucked out. They only ever went in there in the summer heat. In winter in the snow they would be stood in the middle of the field or park up in the hedge if it was windy.

Ours has started today, but J decided a couple of weeks ago he didn't want to go out at night. He hid at the back of his stable when he saw his headcollar one night, and the following night did the same and wouldn't stand still for me to "catch him".... we called it a day the following night and changed over!

The 4yo is out 24/7 on holiday at moment, timed so he can make use of the nice weather. He’ll come in when it turns bad or early Nov at the latest.

The 2 yearlings are not coming in at all ????? she says as disaster probably looms around the corner ?

mine swapped back to day turnout last Saturday :( i'd love to have her out 24/7 or at least out at night for longer but am on livery so have to do what others in the field want! Maybe I should make use of a new stable that's become free and get a second...

In Summer I do my jobs after turning her out for the evening, in winter I do my jobs in the morning after turning her out. Today was my first morning waking up an hour earlier to muck out etc before work and I already do not care for it. How many sleeps till April? Anyone else's ponies 1 million times cleaner when in during the day vs at night?

Mine are now fully DIY with a field and stable as I please. Currently the laminitic is out in the day and in overnight as usual, and my copd boy is out full time, coming in for a feed, check, rugs etc every day. I’ll keep him out as much as I can... if necessary he may have to come in during the day, or a few nights in but given the state of his lungs I don’t want to stable him overnight more than I have to.

Mine will be out as long as the weather allows and it doesn't get too wet. They are happier out and are wearing rugs at night and get plenty of haylage as we don't have a lot of grass.
