Anybody know what the rules and regs regarding this is and what test I have to do? I am 20 on a normal car license, although planning on taking my trailer towing test this summer.

You can drive up to 3.5T on a normal car licence but would need an LGV licence drive over 3.5T and up to 7.5T. Anything more than that you'd need an HGV licence. However, if you were considering getting a licence to drive more than 3.5T I think you're best off doing the HGV as opposed to the LGV test anyway.

I think what I have said is correct! I passed my tests before they brought in the new rules so can drive up to 7.5T on a normal car licence.

Yep, LadyT is right. I passed just after the new rules and wanted to upgrade from 3.5T to 7.5T. Instructor said I might as well do the full HGV test. I think you have to be over 18 to do the 7.5T test, but over 21 to do the full HGV.
