When clipping, how many of you....

Do you have brothers or sisters over the age of 10?

....wear eye protection, namely goggles?

I clipped today and even though I've done two eye baths my eyes are itching and feel as though I have something in them.

I don't use anything 'protective' so to speak...It gives me something else to moan about..which usually leads to the OH taking me shopping to shut me up =]

No - probably a good idea though. I always wait till it is a calm day to clip. If the wind whips up then I stop

I put yes as now wear a face mask - relatively recent thing since my asthma got worse and my nose allergies landed me in hospital last january

I now wear a face mask when sweeping up or doing dusty jobs... except this morning when I got hijacked into moving bales by dad... grrr!

Sounds more like an allergy to dust. Id take piriton before or after clippping.

ETA- CSJ- I used to have to wear a mask for anything that involved dust too.

It may be a form of hayfever not hair in your eyes..
I always used to shower really well and change my clothes completely, those darn hairs can stick right into your skin in hidden places..

Oooo, I'm not allergic. There were definitely bits of hair in my eyes. I'm thinking they might have scratched them. I'm fine this morning.

I had a lovely long soak in the bath and a good old hair wash. It really does get everywhere doesn't it?

I love clipping though. I'm so pleased my horsey is brave about it now.

I don't but I do wear glasses.

Handy tip - beg, steal or borrow (or even buy) a one piece wet weather motorcycle suit - they keep all hair out as you are completely covered and they have a high neck. I keep my old bike suits for this reason once they start to leak on the bike. I wear wellies and use latex gloves and a baseball cap and no more itchy after clip problems.

Worse thing I ever had was finding a piece of Cairo's hair coming out of my nipple - several weeks after clipping

I dont wear anything - only thing I wear is a mask over my mouth as I find I inhale a lot of the hair which then makes my throat sore! Otherwise, I just choose a non-breezy day and do it outside.

Just a friendly reply...Don't under any circumstances use WD40 on a clipper. It is totally unsuitable and will cost you an arm and a leg in the long run. use only a proper clipper oil.

As to goggles, I would always reccomend using coveralls and some protective equipment, safety glasses, mask especially when using a high wattage powerful clipper. Many of these use forced air to cool the machine which is blown out forwards, through the head assembly. This can blow the loose hair up whilst clipping, so it pays to protect yourself against it..
