When do colts realise they have balls??

My colt is a year old on the 24th of this month and i was just wondering when hes going to start noticing the mares?

Hi mine is 2 and he is still turned out next to mares. He has known what they are for about a year but he stands very politely at his side of the fence looking at them doing "naugties and slappin ghis tummy". But he is not causing any probs yet (fingers crossed!!!).

One of the colts born at our yard has been trying to mount his mother since he was about a week old lol! Think he is going for the chop asap!

A friends colt is just over a year (around 14 months) and is now mounting his sister (her other foal born the same time) - vet man with sharp knife coming on monday!

Inky was about 8 months old..... but he didnt care whether it was boy, girl etc.....
