what does this mean? my mare never used to do this as she didnt trust humans, but my new boy is forever doing it. when i'm bending down to put his boots on or brush his legs he'll touch my head or back with his nose. or when i'm leading him with someone onboard he will sometimes push his nose at me. i dont feed him titbits so he's not asking for those! he will turn and pretend to nip if i tighten up his girth too quickly, altho he has never used his teeth, so i just shove his nose out the way.

but when he gently puts his nose on me, is he just sniffing me or saying hello?

Mine is usually trying to cover me in snot and dribble! I don't know but I like to think he is just saying, 'Wot you doin', huh, huh?' There's never any malice in it when FB does it, He likes to sniff my back when I pick out his feet and he often sniffs the farriers neck when he is working too. Perhaps they just like the smell of our fabric softners?

Mine touches me with his nose gently on my face, like a kiss, he likes you to kiss his nose back. I think he is asking a question of some sort, what it is depends on the circumstances, maybe or often "Food, Titbits", sometimes "Scratch me please", sometimes "I am lonely be with me" I get an idea what it may be by the look in his eye and his general demeanor.

I think if you stop and listen to your inner self and just stand next to him and watch quietly, you may get the feeling of what it is.

maybe he loves you and thats the way he tells you.

I love when Hattie does that. I stand still and quiet and it makes me feel happy and tingley

Sophie nudges me when she knows I have treats in my pockets, but she'll turn round and sniff me when I'm picking her feet out or putting boots on etc. Not sure why though...

Sometimes when I'm brushing her face she breathes out 'onto' me (if that makes sense) and I blow back nto her nose, which according to ones of my books, if she blows back after that, we're friends (and she does blow back

)!!

Monty does this when i brush his legs and put his boots on. Or when i'm standing next to him. Most of the time i think it is so he can wipe his snot on me!!

My horses do this too - I like to think it's them saying 'hello'.

My mare years ago used to hold onto the farriers jeans belt with her teeth when her front feet were being done.

Harvey likes to rest his head on my back if im doing the front of his rug up, he'll nudge my bum or my back when i pick his feet out. And if im plaiting him up, he'll do his best to knock me off my grooming box

Lots of reasons, depending on the situation. A shove to say "hey! what are you doing? I demand attention!" or a nudge could say "notice me" or "scratch me on my ticklish spot"

Our crew do it to the farrier too - F is also a skilled wedgie maker - just has a typical boys sense of humour.
