There was a recent thread about this on which I announced my non horsey husband had a good grasp of types of rugs

It appears not!

How sweet!!!

It has taken me three years to teach my Dad the difference between out door coats and jimjams!

Now I am working on Haynets.....now his retired and all, should be a breeze!!! :)

I am regaining my confidence riding and my husband came out with me on a bicycle a few times. He is now banned. He would cycle ahead and leave me with a very agitated pony wanting to catch up. If I wanted to turn right, again he would cycle ahead and turn right and wait for me on the other side of the road, again leaving me with an agitated pony. And when he had a got into an argument with a motorcyclist who reluctantly turned his engine off when I asked, that was the final straw. I was better off just being nervous rather than being even more nervous about what my husband would do next. (He can not understand why, I would rather go out on my own). My pony loves company, a walker, a cyclist, even a random person out for a walk, or another pony. But most of our rides are solo. Happy walking and trotting out now.

My lovely husband doesn't know one end of Kali from the other - he wouldn't know a turnout from a fleece (unless I told him) - but he helps me to look after the boy by doing other things - like hoovering, doing the dishes, paying the bills, doing a lot of the admin . . . I love him for it.

My OH just about knows one end of the horse from the other, but he never complains when my daughter and I disappear for hours, either down the yard or when she is competing. Also when buying horses for my daughter his only comments have been how much - cash, cheque or bank draft. (Mind you he did wince slightly when we bought the dumbblood - muttering under his breath 'I could have bought a new car for that much')

I have two racks with labels on: One for outdoor rugs and one for pyjamas and they only have one rug on each. It makes it so simple for the other person.

When I was ill OH went to yard to feed horse. Told him exactly what to give and which bin it was in, only pasture mix he came back and said I gave him a good scoop of pony nuts. WTF , turns out he gave him sugar beet pellets. Cue me taking myself off my bed of pain and spending the evening shoving Epsom salts down horses throat. He pebbledashed the back wall of the stable !

I am blessed, mine does everytHing I do, is bolder than me too and can hang on to a naughty one when I have to let go! If I had to nit pick I'd say he's not hot on tack cleaning but TBH so long as he rinses the bit, that's enough!

Husband in a million, built horsebox, maintains everything, mucks out better than me, gets the rugs right and horse adores him. This from the man who said when I wanted a horse said 'fine, as long as I never have to do anything with it'!

I think iv struck gold my fairly new OH got on my mare yesterday for the first time (in his life on a horse ever!) and loved every minute of it!

You all laugh at us, yet as soon as the truck, car, central heating boiler, washing machine, cooker, hairdryer plays up..........

I sort it out myself, the car used to be his domain (he is a mechanic after all) but since I have been single it is quicker and easier to take it to a garage and have it fixed-in fact it was quicker and easier to do that when we were still together but he would moan that I had got it fixed.

I (correctly) rug my own and other peoples horses, clean my own tack, do my own leather repairs, can take a shoe off in an emergency, but my (tongue in cheek) point still stands.

These threads make me sooooooo grateful for my horsey husband! Just wish he could tow the trailer...........
Mine is competely non horsey and wont lift a finger. He has however recently taken over hitching the trailer up though, as he reckons he's quicker than me and it's 'easy'. I'm still working on getting him to take his driving test though so a way to go yet...

Think my OH would love to ride but being 6ft 6 and 17 stone don't think it's likely on the horse I share!

He is lovely though. Until coming to help me, he'd never actually properly touched a horse before.

He makes me laugh. Mare I ride is as good as gold and when I've finished riding I can leave her standing still while I faff about. She just looks like she's falling asleep! He was stroking her on the head and said "the thing is, I don't know if this is doing anything for her? Does she like it?" Think he's too used to dogs who can be a bit more interactive and have a tail to wag!

We don't all laugh at you, honest. But in this household, for any of the above events, husband calls me to fix them. We do get some strange comments when people realise that hubby is deadheading the roses while I change the clutch on the Land Rover.

It's about team work!

Just about the same in my house - he does the cooking, I do the DIY!! We are a very modern couple and do not conform to society's ideas of gender roles. He also has nothing to do with my horse, pretty much. Although he does get stuck at home with the kids while I go off gallivanting, which he moans about but I am very grateful for - bless him!

My hubby will do everything but ride. From a very horsey (showing/hunting) family, rode until he was a teenager.
We have been together for 10 years and he has never got on one of mine. I would love to see him ride, he is very capable on the ground!
