'you will ache tomorrow', or something similar during a riding lesson, and then you don't. Does it mean you're not doing something right? Or can it just mean you're fitter than their average client so don't find something strenuous even though most people would? My new instructor sometimes says this even though I don't find the lessons physically hard at all, but then I do have a very physical job and ride a lot so I don't know if it's due to this or because I'm not working in the correct way?

I expect you're fitter than the average client

If you ride a lot Im guessing those muscles are used to being worked and therefore the lesson doesnt stretch them as far as it would if say you only rode once every week or two. I find that since I have started riding recreationally every day that when I do have a lesson I dont ache nearly as much as i used to when I just had 1 lesson a week

For me, I would like to feel smug and think it's the latter

. However reality will creep in and I suspect it's more likely to be the former

Without meaning to sound smug, I can't remember the last time I ever ached after a riding lesson, very rarely ached from anything infact! But I have been riding atleast once (often more), a day, pretty much everyday for years. I think my instructor probably thinks he is pushing me more than he is, but then it's not like my horse goes perfectly, so maybe I'm just not trying hard enough?

My instructor used to say things like 'when you do -this- *demonstrates* you should feel a pull on -these- muscles...' I never used to... I used to just remind her that I obviously didn't have muscles

I don't usually ache after lessons - I often think I will and still don't! Friday especially, after my horse spent half an hour doing some spectacular bucking and I nearly threw up after my lesson, I thought my stomach muscles would hate me for a week. Nope! Very strange

Maybe your muscles get used to it in a way after a while?! I have no idea...
