I wait an hour, Just to let his stomach settle, Some people on our yard just get straight on and go on fast hack. I would never do that but some people do.
well after he's been brought in , groomed, tacked up and i've gone to get my hat and gloves it's been 30 minutes / 45 minutes. wouldn't jump on straight away xxx
Mine is out 24/7 all year round so I just bring him in and ride. Obviously warming up properly first. Mind you if he was on lush grass I might give his tum time to settle first.
I just get straight on. A horse may have to gallop like hell out in the wild if something threatned them and you dont see them saying 'no i must wait, i cant possibley run when ive been eating.' By the time you have got them in, brushed them off, tacked them up and warmed them up they will be fine to work properly, just be sure to warm up and cool down correctly.
It depends really. If I plan to work them hard I would rather they had a break first - otherwise you struggle to do the girth up, I end up shattered before I have even started lol
I agree with what you are saying I dont time myself I just know its about 30/45 mins for me to brush and tack up, As he is naughty and rolls in the swamp so I have a very messy horse. My horse isnt on lush grass anyhow so I tend not to bother so much. When it was lush then I would purposly wait.

I agree with this statement. I read in a horsey mag recently that it is a myth that you should wait for an hr after your horse has eaten before you ride/exercise. Though personally if my horse had had a large feed or lush grazing or I was doing harder work I would be sensible and leave it an hr...
By the time ive brought either one of them in from the field, groomed and tacked up its around 30mins. I then do about 10mins of walk exercise before starting hard work aswell. However mine are both only out during the day on alternate days and there isnt much grass in their fields so they aren't stuffing themselves all day.
If they were out on lush grass it would be a different matter.
Its perfectly fine to jump straight on. Bear in mind that in the wild grazing animals must be able to run away from danger immediately. The zebra won't say to the lion "just hold of trying to eat me for half an hour whilst I digest this grass"....
Never really thought about it - I guess that i've never had Ty on good grass since I've had him. Saying that he was on a nice field for about a month and looked like a barrel when he came in - gave him a while to settle then....
I don't conciously wait any time, but by the time I have messed about grooming, tacking up, finding hat, gloves etc and bandaging legs it must be a good 30-45 mins from leaving the field. My horse is munching hay all of the time though.
I always leave a good 30 mins to 1 hour after eating hard feed before riding and always leave 20-30 mins after riding before feeding a hard feed (wonder if this is why I take so long at the yard and am always in trouble from my ever to patient other half! lol!)
My horse is usually brought in before i get down from work so is left a good hour or so and at weekends i ride before i turn out but it wouldn't bother me about bringing them straight in to ride unless they was on really good grazing and needed to deflate.
by the time ive brushed him and tacked him up and then lock the yard up and realise ive forgotten something its atleast 45 mins!! i dont like them to travel to shows etc either when theyve been out grazing rich grass.
