I have noticed that there are lots of people on here with a wealth of knowledge and was wondering if you could send some good advice my way please.

Basically, (pack of chocolate biscuits on stand-by) we moved to new area the tail end of 2008 with several acres so now have the luxury of having “the boys” at home and not in a farmers field anymore.

The boys consist of my boy Ed, I have had him for 14 years and he was possibly in his mid teens when I got him. My friend’s boy Barnaby, who is 29 and has been retired for the past 5 years, I am 90 % sure we will be loosing B at the end of the summer :( and then there's my Daughters pony Jake.

Since moving to our new place and with the kids being just that bit older I have got the itch back to get back in the saddle and do more than very gentle hacking and I know my Daughter wants to do more than a short walk. I would also like to join a RC and do XC and SJ. There is no way Ed would be able to do this.

Now the things going on inside my head…..

We currently have planning in for a new stable block and sand school, should I wait until we have planning, (no reason why we shouldn’t get it and if we don’t then we do have stabling for 4 horses and its not as if they spend much time in)

Should I wait until the work has been completed so that new horse arrives to lovely new stables and don’t have to worry about an extra one that I don’t know that well whilst there is work going on.

Should I wait until after we have lost B, though my friend wants’ me to get another before because she is worried what effect losing his best mate might have on Ed but if she doesn’t go through with it, then I would have problems as I have only got enough hay in so far for 3, It’s a very hard decision for her as she has had him for 21 years and I would hate to put her under any pressure.

Should I get another now while Ed can still manage a gentle hack so that he can give support to a younger horse?

Should I look now and stop finding excuses! I know all this has a lot to do with feeling like a traitor to my lovely boy.

I have been having lessons for the past few weeks to iron out my rusty riding and bad habits (not on Ed) and last week I jumped again for the first time in 20 + years, big mistake, really itching to go now!

But is it the right time? Really sorry for the essay x

It's like having children... there's always a reason not to but you've at some point got to take that leap of faith... worst scenario... it doesn't work and you've got to sell... I'd say go for it but then I'm always the risk taker in my family:D

Thank you Blitznbobs, sorry that was a very long post.

I don't suppose there is any harm in looking, now is there. I am just a little worried incase I am rushing.

Thank you

Im always a "go for it and if it doesnt work figure it out then" kind of person.

Personally i think you should start having a look for something, if you really want to get out and about dont let anyone stop you
