When is this going to STOP!?

too right unfortunately it goes on everyday . I still think horse slaughter should be banned and animals can only be put down by injection.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting a horse near Weatherford, Texas.

On January 24, a ranch hand discovered the dead horse in a fenced-in pasture near a road at 72 Ranch, in the 2400 block of Fox Road west of Weatherford, Texas. The seven-month-old cutting horse filly, named Bald Face Lie, had been shot between the eyes at close range with a high-powered rifle, the Parker County Sheriff's Office said.

This is not cruelty. It is horrible for the horse owner, of course, but death would have been instant, therefore how can it be cruel?

Hope they catch the cruel sod, at least it woud have been quick. I'd rather any animal shot than injected. It is quicker.
Nice name for the filly "Bald face lie"

<font color="blue"> Are you truly serious?! Or just having a wind up? It will be a sad day when that happens. So horses/cattle/pigs/sheep etc destined for the food chain should be injected, that is simply not going to happen.

If I had a horse with a broken leg etc, my vet was 4 hours away then I am damn sure that I would be phoning my neighbour to come down and shoot the animal for me, sod waiting for the Vet with his needle.

I am not even going to go into the welfare aspect of banning slaughterhouses.

"Senseless acts of animal cruelty like the shooting of this horse should not go unpunished," said Keith Dane, The HSUS' director of equine protection. "We hope this reward will help law enforcement bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice."

Getting the serious attention of law enforcement, prosecutors, and the community in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault.

Have I got the correct article here? I read it as an 'assault' on the horse resulting in death, no mention was made of actual physical cruelty, or gunshot wounds, other than the shot between the eyes which I imagine would be pretty much instantaneous. Sad, and sick, but preferable to being assaulted or mutilated with Heaven knows what.

Ditto Enfys, Id rather mine were shot. Injection (IMO, in most cases) is purely for the owners benefit.

I'd rather mine knew nothing about it than panic about losing control.

Unfortunately attitudes like yours are the exact reason why, probably, this incident happened (behind the barn shooting because do gooders in US decided that horse abbottoires should be closed). And so now horses in the US can face terrible circumstances now that these abbotiores have been closed down. Many face journeys of hundreds of miles across the border to Mexico in the most barbaric conditions to be slaughtered there.

People like you, I'm afraid, make my friggin blood boil. Humanity is not at the end of a needle - it's usually at the end of a barrell!
