When it's blowing a gale, how many of you just...

no chance would i have ridden tonight- far too windy- my horse is a spooky tit at the best of times, was asking to have an accident

A friend and I rode in the school tonight it was very windy but not as bad as earlier in the day. Both our boys were surprisingly good.

I wouldn't have ridden if I'd been on my own.

Not a chance, neither of us like it!

Although we did do an Easter treasure hunt in weather like this in April ... never, EVER again, we were both soaked through and miserable for the full time we were out.

As far as my horse is concerned i wouldn't have any qualms about riding him in any weather BUT I think it's too dangerous with regards to what debris may be flying about so, on that basis no, i wouldn't ride in this weather! :-)

I lunged in the indoor which was making some strange buzzing noises due to the wind but Charlie was very good. Bringing him and his friend in from the field was rather more exciting - I so need some new wellies - I was almost skiing on my smooth soles!

Phew! I feel better already, perhaps it's actually being wise rather than being a wuss!! ;) Mine were even frightening themselves being led out to their field this morning!! :(

Yep, i rode in the gale winds earlier with the driving rain!!

Horse was more spooky than normal- understandable, and was also quite, um, fresh!!

i tried to just concentrate on dressage, but gave up on that idea after about 20mins!! Then just jumped him over the jumps that where still up, he was fab - he just needed to have something to think about other than the wind/rain/spooky things :)

He dosent really like driving rain, but he worked quite well all things considered (plus he is 4) and I am actually quite pleased with how he went :)

But I ride in all weathers; i am of the opinion that if you want to compete in all weathers, you must ride in all weathers :)
Apart from thunderstorms, scare the crap out of me!!

Its still really windy here in Kent.

I have a good excuse not to ride in this weather :D my girl isn't broken in yet but even if she was, watching her spooking in the field every 5 minutes earlier would of stopped me anyway. Was considering tethering her to the ground, in case she blew away!

I hope it calms down soon x

The wind has gotten worse throughout the day in manchester. I didn't ride as i didn't want to spend half an hour sat on top of a spooking nut job, clinging on for dear life. I did loose school him though, and he was very good. He listened to my voice aids really well for 99 percent of the time (did loooaads of transitions). But i wouldn't have liked to be sat on him for the other 1 percent lol.

very windy here in Roscommon:eek: had same excuse unbroken yearlings and 2 year old! all skipping round the paddock!:D fed them in paddock and just glad im never gonna sit on the shetland! she was mental!! :)

Its horrendously windy here right now! I just hope I don't wake up to find my car or the horses have blown away over night!

But answering the question, I was a wuss and didn't ride cause of the wind too earlier! I did a bit of loose schooling instead, we only have an outdoor arena so everything was all over the place! My jumper flew off the fence into mud

Oh and the flying wheelbarrow sounds scary!

Yeah, stupidly tried to put hay out too which resulted in me chasing to get it back then standing feeding it by hand. Brain isn't working today!

No Shetland pony grand national?!? :D

Its a shame your so far away! I'm 5ft nothing and weigh 6st, I would love the challenge! :D I think there is an age limited on the grand national though isn't there?

Could do a deal, I break in your Shetland if you break in my anglo arab mare :D I will nicely provide a body protector! :D

I think-dont quote me! that shetland nationals you have to be over 10 and under 13 years old?? il start a thread see what happens!!!:D
the proper grand national i think you can be any age?
But im not small enough-im 5ft 1inch but i probably weigh the top end scale of a grand national jockey with extra weights?:D

shetland is only yearling-so you got time to relocate to ireland, get a job a house and then you can spend your days been bucked off by mad chestnut shetland!
the offer of a back protector is very kind.....why dont you do her yourself? much more satisfying for the owner ;) that and my spine just went into spasm?????

No,, not unless I've arranged to meet a friend and am too embarrassed to wimp out:D

One of my horses is over at a friends yard at the moment - getting some life experiences. I rang her yesterday for a progress report and she said "she doesn't go out in the wind much does she??",, don't know what she was implying:D:D

Nope, I'm somewhat of a fair weather rider! As I just hack and have some lessons there is no need to go out if the weather is terrible - I don't enjoy it, Belle doesn't enjoy it and my instructor doesn't enjoy it (so if the weather is really bad, we change the lesson time/day).

Plus... I don't have a death wish. :D

it doesnt bother me but then my pony is not too spooky. altho he does get the wind up his tail and goes a lot faster! but if it's too bad i will just stick to the roads rather than go on top of the Downs.
