in order: Patience. Humour. a Horse-Lover (i do wonder about some.) Exactitude.
i can't have someone taking it horribly seriously and pressurising me - i do that enough myself already! if i find all those, i'm very happy.
Someone who has a sense of humour but also who pushes me and tells me to get my arse into gear! I hate trainers who are at all nasty to the horse, ie. Ive seen the odd one screaming at the rider to wollop their horses etc. IMO you arent there to be taught how to punish your own horse!
I also ideally like the trainer to be out competing at a decent level so they know the demands of current XC / SJ courses etc.
Someone with experience, that can explain themselves to me & make sure I understand. They've got to be patient, calm and able to see where effort/time/work is being put in and improvements being made.
Someone that will travel to my yard is a bonus as well.
Looking for a new trainer Becki? I'm on the hunt too!
Someone who can actually get an improvement out of the horses!!!!
At PC everyone rave about the dressage trainer, but she did nothing for Flynn and me, so after a year of bu**er all, changed and started improvin straight away, and she was cheaper!!!! She actually asked to ride Flynn to see what he actually did, nobody had ever asked to do this before!!!!!
But could never have lessons with someone that scared me!!!!
Someone who I get along with, understand and who understands me and my horse.
They'd be no point me having some flashy trainer that I can't understand or I feel intimidated by. I need someone to tell me something is good when it is, but I also like someone to say it's crap when it is - my current instructor was made for me!!!
I look for someone who I can get on with, someone who speaks in a way that makes sense to me, someone who can show me what they mean if I don't get it and lastly someone who can get the best out of me and my horse. My current trainer is just the person!
Someone who understands what you want from your horse, also someone who is simpathetic to you and your horses mistakes and will not ball and shout, but then someone who will ball and shout when you are not riding to your potential!
