walk / run in front or behind you.

My girls are always behind because they are always snffing / snuffling and bimbling along and its started to spoil my enjoyment of walking them because i'm always having to wait or turnaround and check they're still there.

I end up virtually walking backwards as they're so stealthy they'll be gone if I don't keep an eye on them.

Anyone else have this and can it be resolved.

My dogs walk in front of me and my bitch often waits for me to catch up, she turns round and it looks like she's saying ''hurry up''. :)

What breed have you got BBH? maybe its the breed that you have that does that!

Both girls are Bullmastiffs.

They are typical bullbreeds though in that everything is in their own time and one of them is particularly ' selectively deaf ' :D

They are fabulous girls but this little habbit is starting to annoy me and then I feel guilty as they are having such a good time.

Both. At the start she's just running around like a nutter essentially. After she's had her made 20 mins, she just trots behind.

my boy trots on in front but keeps an eye on me,i tell him wait often and he waits for me.

when down a narrow track i make a point of walking in front of him.

See thats what i'd love, them keeping an eye on me and not the other way around.

The smaller female very rarely moves from directly behind me, the smaller male you do have to watch, he's normally in front of you but can disappear in the blink of an eye.
If my friends ridgebacks are there you make a point of them being in front of you as 3 ridgebacks having a carry on at the back of you is a receipe for being put flat on your face/back/backside (whatever) when they run into you.

As its annoying you lets the dogs pass you and stay behind them, when you feel they have sniffed enough tell them to hurry up, and if they ignore you tempt them with tasty treats, and when they come give them one. In time they will get to know that word ''hurry up'' and know its meaning. Then you will enjoy your walk. :)

I have a 4 yr old spangle, if its in woods she's everywhere but in front keeping an eye where I/we are. She does love to sniff EVERY blade of grass sometimes, I just say come on. If in an open field she'll run around us and in front of us, sometimes on a lead she'll walk past something then decide she wants a better sniff lol and stop or go back a bit, generally I think she stays in front

Could play hide & seek.... I do this when I notice that my dog is wandering into his own world. If there's a tree or something around when they're not looking, hide behind it. In theory (!) they'll suddenly realise you're not around and come searching for you. When they do find you, big reward! I normally do this on dogs that run infront because I've found it's always made them check back on you a bit more to see if you're still there, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with a dog that lingering about behind :D

I will deffo try the treat idea.

They are really good girls on my land but take them out and they're all over the place, well one is and the other bimbles along :D

Brig bimbles on ahead, Bear disappears but has good recall (except for the muntjac lthe other day ). Zak stays close if muzzled, which he always is or or a long line these days.

You could try only feeding them (their entire food allowance) only on walks so they realise you are brilliant to come back to.
