Im wondering:
How do you work out a deposit amount?
Would you charge them livery money until they picked the horse up?
What do you write in the contract?
Is it best to vaccinate them? Even though some people dont have them vaccinated?

i always sell mine fully vaccinated.
i ask for a deposit of at least £500 (or more depending on horses value)
i dont think i have written a purchase contract - just an invoice to say how much they have paid deposit form and how much is still owing.

and no i dont charge them livery!
 
I don't really bother with deposits generally, but I am maybe too trusting. I think a couple hundred quid is a good amount.

I wouldn't charge them livery until they picked the horse up - as far as I am concerned, the horse is still mine until I have all the money and the horse is in their lorry so I don't think it is really right to charge livery whilst they're arranging the transfer.

Don't do a contract either, just write a receipt for both of us. Would always keep a horse up to date on Vaccs also, although if the vacc was due after they'd agreed to purchase I'd probably ask them if they wanted it and ask them to pay.

<font color="blue">If Vaccs. where due, I would keep them up to date, if they where due a week or so after horse was to move and sale agreed, I would ask the purchaser if they wanted them done prior to collection at their cost, so the horse didn't have to have vaccs whilst settling into its new home. </font>
 
When I bought my darling pony I did not put down a deposit but as soon as he had passed the vetting I transfered the money to the sellers bank account and then got him collected - it all took about a week. They did not charge me livery and as consciencious owners his vacs etc were all upto date.
 
Ive only ever asked for a deposit if they arent going to pick the horse up within the week. Usually just a token amount like £100, just so I know they're a bit more serious.

I would not charge them livery money. I might consider it only if they couldnt take the horse within say, a fortnight.

Contract - wise I have one I got off the internet which covers things like the horses name, height, passport number, the name &amp; address of new owners and current owners. And the amount being paid. Then get 2 copies signed by everyone, each person keeps a copy. If anything is to come with the horse Id write that too such as tack etc.

I keep vaccinations up to date.

However, Ive had plenty of people who Ive bought from who dont do the above! It depends!
