would you allow it to be sold to a riding school. I only ask as the riding school l keep my pony at are trying to buy new horses and they are having no luck finding any as most owners won`t sell them to a riding school. To be honest these riding school horses are better looked after than many private homes. I know they work hard but they are well cared for. I let my lad work a few hours a week to help them out and if l had to sell him l would sell him to them.

I think it depends on the horse and the riding school of course. I bought Ella (big black mare with white face in my sig) last year from a riding school. All the horses there were exceptionally well cared for and she only did 10 hours work per week, so not exactly over-worked. Before seeing her, I had looked at some very sorry sights where private people were selling.

No, because she would get the individual care and attention, she currently enjoys and deserves. Mind you if I had to sell her, I would be VERY choosey as to who she went to.

In principle yes, depending on the horse I had to sell and what the place was like. I've actually just been asked this on my pony for sale, someone setting up a riding school saw my advert and emailed me. I said no regarding him because he's not the right sort, he's only 6, too well bred and I think if I can just find the right person he will be a fantastic pony for them. (I need a laid back gung ho kid/adult who likes going fast and jumping things for him, and all I've had enquiring are middle aged ladies who want to do dressage with him)

Yes, riding schools can be happy places for horses - as the staff really love them, they get regular work (but not too much in my experience) and have the company of their herd.

lol the riding schools I've experianced in my areas were terrible, I would never sell to any of them - whatever our situation! I'm sure they're not all as bad as the ones I've known, because they were horrible, but I don't think my horse would appreciate not being the favourite, and being trotted round in circles, he'd just get bored and very naughty I think
