Maggie went lame just over a week ago - I thought it was because she lost her shoe and was footsore. Farrier came out -re-fitted shoe and she was fine for a couple of days, then went lame again. Farrier came out, had a poke round but didnt find anything. I poulticed foot but nothing came out.
Farrier came back last Friday to look again but couldn't see anything so he took all shoes off and said phone vet. She's not noticably lame in walk, only in trot, she's still hooning around the field like an idiot! I suspected muscle strain so I left her over the weekend and just walked her out in hand on soft ground. There's no improvement, but its not getting any worse. Would you call the vet now or give it a few more days to see if it improves? There's no heat or swelling anywhere.

I always go with my gut feeling, if in your position I would prob call the vet for advice in the next day or so

I agree with the others, Id rather pay the call out and be told all is ok, rather than put off for too long
I think you have done the right thing so far with the farrier etc
Good luck hope its nothing serious.

Sounds like you have given it enough time to improveon its own. I would now be speaking with my vet, it may be something like a pulled ligament?

I'd probably be ringing for advice over the phone and seeing what they say.

Why did the farrier remove all of the shoes?

She was ready for shoeing anyway as the clenches were through, farrier didn't want her ripping them off and causing her more injury!
I think I will ring later for a chat with the vet and see what he thinks. I'm sure she's pulled something as she's been charging around on hard ground in the field.

i waited a week or so with more or less the same symptoms - vet came - box rest 3 days and bute - then 5 days bute and in a pen - have turned her out with the others today and going to walk her for 10 mins in soft school on thursday - so it will be nearly 3 weeks since she was last ridden - perhaps you should give her a few more days off and a bit of box rest if she can take it, and see how she goes? x
