i think you have a good point BSJA... its not a stupid question at all...someone at the yard asked me the same thing before :) (it must be lovelt to live in a perfect world where you know the answer to everything )

yes it may be stupid to others but if i turnt her out and she slipped and hurt herself it would be my fault! and i would never forgive myself so its nice to know what others do :)

Look at it another way then, she is more likely to do herself an injury by keeping her cooped up because you are worried she 'might do herself an injury', because when you DO let her loose, she is more likely to spent the next 20 minutes charging about like a lunatic...

that seems a bit odd as 5 x 5 = 25 and 2 x 10 = 20 so you get more hay if you go for the 5 haynets but pay the same as having the two with less hay

no they dont weight it we do, so we can have 5 haynets that weight 5lb or two that weight 10lb ect depending on what you what to feed per time and how many times...

Christ Almighty, just throw her out in the field. She is a horse, not a china doll! What did you do last year with all the snow? She won't thank you if you keep her locked up in a 12x12 with her daily ration run out by 10am!

Ignore them they are spitfull, and have been causing fights on a different post must eveings. Yes alot of people do keept there jumping horses in when the ground is bad, some wont risk it. Yes there horses she'll be fine it will do her hocks more damage been in she'll get stiff. Its better to ask than get it worng.

Give the poor girl a break for gods sake your supposed to be adults!!!!

oooo, look..another mistake.

you really should try harder to get your story right, lovey

try writing things down...it tends to help story tellers no end

I am giggling :P

I am slightly confused that they dont allow anyone to bring their own hay
But you cant have anymore
Hmmmmm im not sure whos more confused us or her

oh give it a rest.....everyone, from princess diana to pope john paul has offered advice to BSJA 1234567890...she/he just doesnt get her/his round it...or is a complete windup...

im sorry but people on here got me and ebs jumping back up to 1,20 with no rushing and i did that USING here help! so dont tell me i didt listen cause i did!!

there cannot possibly be a rule in the world where a yard can tell you what you can and cannot feed your horse and if this is so I would look at moving as it is just utterly ridiculous

so why cant you have more/pay for more I just dont understand are you allowed extra for having on the lorry for shows?

new rule cant buy bedding/hay outside yard :)

Can you not supplement the haylage with something else, like Just Grass? You can't dictate a set amount of haylage/hay to every horse, my horse gets through about 35lb hay/horsehage mix during one day (I don't weigh the hay in the field so it's a guess) but her fieldmate only gets about 15-18lb, because she is a large wb and he is a small fat cob.

The fact she is a tb isn't an excuse to allow her to look poor, yes some are difficult to keep weight on, but the majority aren't. They just need constant access to good forage. If I was told I had to cap the amount of forage I gave my horse, I'd move. Or work round it. Horses have a sense of self preservation, turn her out with a pile of hay and let her get on with it!
