...do you feel happier if your horse is in his/her stable, or out in the field?

I would have to say in stable as my friends horse got struck by lightening whilst in the field and it really scares me now

In his stable, he hates thunder and lightning so rather he was safe in his stable with his friends around him, wouldn't want him out in the field in case he galloped round and hurt himself

Not too bothered where mine is TBH. He's not worried about storms, and there's just as much chance of him having a freak accident when the sun is out. The chance of him being struck by lightening is pretty slim.
However, my friends horse is petrified, and he stays in if storms are forecast. But he had a bad experience as a youngster, and was found in a ditch with a dead horse after a storm. Don't know the full story, but think the other had been struck by lightening.

In their stables, love knowing my horse is nice and tucked up with lots of haylage if the weather is horrible outside.

Out - the chance of him injuring himself through panicking in his box is far greater than the chance of him getting struck by lightening

me too.

Totally undecided. If lightning hits the stable and she's in, she'll either smash herself to bits or get zapped from a metal fixture. If lightning strikes close and she's out she'll freak and could fall, crash into something, etc. So wherever she is when a storm hits is where she stays. Also, she's a real weather pony. Handling her in squally winds would probably be more dangerous for me than good for her.

Out, as always.

A friends mare was killed by lightning a few years ago, the Vet deduced it had struck her back and exited through her belly. She had grass in her mouth and her ears pricked, so thank God it was quick. The Vet also reckoned the lightning didn't strike her, it hit the electric fence, and then looked to earth, and she was stood next to the fence.
