Hi guys. Bit of advice needed pls. My 18 yr old pony went lame half way round a hack on Tuesday. We've had a new pony join our herd and i think my boy has just over done it in the field. I've not ridden since but this morning i free schooled him for a moment.so i could assess. He's still lame in trot but desperate to burn off energy. I had to stop him going into one of him mad hoons round the paddock. So, he's still lame after 4 days. Id say slightly lame. There's nothing obvious on leg. Should i rest him a few more days before calling vet? Cannot box rest as no stables. Tuesdays are our vets zone day (cheaper call out). Shall i reassess on Monday and call vet for tues if still lame? It'll hve been a week by then.

With a mild lamness I tend to leave it a week, then reassess.

The other thing you could do is have your farrier out in the meantime just to make sure it is nothing foot/shoe related.

Hope he comes right soon.

I would always get my farrier to take a look first tbh, I trust him more with my horses feet, unless it was something obvious higher up.

In answer to your question, no I wouldn't calll out the Vet straight away for mild lameness.
