Just wondering when to first worm a foalie?

Hannah was wormed 5 weeks before she had Troy, so when should she be done too?

(Pictures coming tonight!)

I will be worming Cloud Ivermectin within 12 hours of foaling; mainly to stop scouring of the foal.

Hmmm... not done that one!

He has never scoured at all, in fact it was quite the opposite (he had to have an enema

)

Someone mentioned 4 weeks, but I can't find any info on it.

Thanks... I did not worm as he was born, and I was told by the vets to worm Hannah (the mum) 4 weeks before foaling but because she was a bit over, it ended up just over 5 weeks before he was born.

foals can be treated with eqvalan (ivermectin) from 6 weeks of age or strongid p as a single dose (pyrantel embonate) from 4 weeks of age.

Thanks... that is what I needed to know!

I have bought the one that all the horses at the yard were done with the last time as the wormer supplier said it would be suitable. It is Eraquell...

You've been through a foaling.....that's a heck of a lot more understanding than a lot of horsey-folks know.

I think you are doing great.

Thanks Tia... It's things like when to worm etc that I just don't know about. But that is why this forum is so good, someone will usually know the answer

Worm the foal at 10 days old with 1/2 a tube of Panacur and then at 3 week intervals . Stops foal scour and most foals are born with a small worm burden picked up from the mare during the foetal stage.
