when to PTS?

As a qualified RSPCA inspector I have seen this many times. Putting a dog to sleep when the time is right, is the final act of kindness you can give your pet.
Vets very often will eek out an animals life for those few extra months as they see easy money.
Your dog is suffering now- the time is right to PTS, think of the dog not yourself.
 
It must be hard for you. It's one of those cases where people just don't think straight and are not actually thinking of what the dog is going through both in deterioration of health aswell as it's physical failing and they more think of their own upset and thought of the dog not being there anymore or it's life being taken away. We always say why can't humans be given that peaceful injection when the time comes. I hope you can talk your family round.

Steady on. The OP is doing her best. She is putting the needs of the dog first, but the external pressures are (or were) understandably proving too much.

Should you read this, Alison, I was going to say that I wonder what the reaction of the rspca would be. Not the official line perhaps, but one that most can aline with.

Update,
She has not changed in the last ten days. Still very incontinent, she doesn't even bother to ask to go out any more.:(
We have fed her all her favourite foods this week and she will be having fillet steak for her breakfast tomorrow :)
Taken her for two walks this week and she managed but slept well after.
Tomorrow she will be going over the rainbow bridge :(
 
What a relief for you; my heart bleeds for the poor little dog.

Has your OH seen this thread at all as if not, after it's over tell him to read it, might make him more aware of the suffering his family have put her through needlessly? A little blame won't be a'miss for him to carry too, I think you've done remarkably well in those circumstances; how long did she have to cry out before they actually watched and listened, disgraceful.

Thank god for that, poor dog. Thinking of you, I realise how hard it has been for you xx
