okay well, last sunday my partloaner was leading my horse out of the arena and the gate "jammed" and apparently "rammed" into my horse, who freaked out, reared and got stuck over the gate. she scraped her back right leg and over her stifle bone. :(

we have had the vet out twice, on the day it happened(sunday) and the next day. on monday she said she was suprised how well my horse was coping as on sunday she had been telling us to prepare for the worst. thea has bute every night for her tea and an antibiotic with her breakfast. she is a bit clicky in the field but other than that she is, amazingly, 100% sound!!! i have been cleaning the wound everyday and hosing it down twice, and taking her out for 5-10 minute walks as she is in a small paddock during the day and stabled during the night. it's healing really well and the antibiotics etc seem to have done the trick.

when do you think she will be rideable again? should i get the vet out again just to check her over and give her the "all clear"(hopefully!!) or just give her another week and slowly bring her back into work? she has an awful lot of energy being a tbx and all!

What suggestions did the vet make when he came out re riding her again. Do you know what her injuries were? Tbh I would ask your vet as none of us here know the injuries your horse sustained and her medical history - def a vet only question I think!
Glad she is getting better nice and quick!

the vet said to keep her off work for a week or two :)
as for the injury..she had scraped layers of skin off and it was quite raw and painful looking. sorry i'm not really explaining it very well..but it had been bleeding over the stifle bone(not heavily). on sunday she was kind of dragging her leg as if it was really hurting her. on monday, when the bute had worn off and the vet came again, the vet said she was only 2/10 lame in walk and 0/10 lame in trot.
everyone at the yard thinks shes sound and had a lucky escape! and thank you, i'm glad too, i was soo worried!

I would be looking for all signs of bruising and swelling to have gone before I got back on.

The inhand walking is a really great idea.

yeah definitely, i'm going up soon so i'll check and get one of the other residents to watch me walk/trot her. i think i'll stick to inhand walks for 5-10 minutes a day for now, might be the best option ?x
