So what age was your horse when it's mane was first pulled? Is if cruel thinking of doing a yearling?

got a yearling with very long mane I want to pull but just don't know if if acceptable on a baby? If so how is best way to do this with long mane/baby cut then use thinning blade?

I breed my own - both of mine didn't have anything done with their manes until they were 2 - I don't pull though, I cut the ends with scissors to required length (shock horror not scissors!!!!) and then use a mane rake which takes out all the dead hair. Works really well and all mine are quite happy having that done

Horse is tb x welsh with welsh lengh tb thin, and Almost no forelock (tb side again) as you can understand looks odd, but if I have to wait another year so be it ...

There's nothing to stop you tidying it up though and if it's that thin, the easiest way is with a dog stripping comb that you use on the underneath; take a few hairs and pull the comb through towards you at the length you want. It doesn't hurt them and I can even do my mare who is a trembling wuss about a mane pull with it without too much trouble. With the forelock, don't comb it out, just hold the whole lot and do the same, that way you won't get a Cleopatra look, it needs to look natural. When you first use it, just do a little along the whole length until you get the hang of it, you can always take more off but can't put it back! Brilliant bit of kit, I've used them for over 30 years now and unless I need to pull to thin for plaiting, I won't use anything else. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUPLEX-DOG-DRESSER-COMB-STRIPPING-BLADE-/321220643367
