Nits is apparently alive and well after her op. I am not sure how soon is acceptable to go and visit. I don't want to appear hysterical ( will obviously call and check it is convenient before just dropping by!)

I was told they don't like you visiting the same day as the surgery but you can visit the day after. Well done Nitty and get well soon :)

I dropped mine at the vets today, will ring before they close, and may consider popping round tomorrow, and thurs before bringing him home friday. Having said that, he was totally unbothered about being left there, and some weeks I barely see him due to work anyway :(

She has only had a little tiny lump taken off her hock so hardly life threatening! I sort of want to go over but I don't want to get in the way and I assume she'll be pretty peed off and quite possibly better left to her own devices. At least this evening. Perhaps I'll see if I can pop in tomorrow morning on the way to work.

Our pony recently had emergency op. Vets suggested we visited twice a day :) I think they expect owners to need to visit. Hope all good

This is what I thought might be the case but I know they're lovely and would let me go if I asked to. Hence trying to work out what is actually not going to stop them doing their job!

When mine was in, they were more than happy for me to visit whenever I wanted during working hours; outside working hours was fine as long as I told them beforehand when I was going.

The horse was usually just standing in the stable, so I was definitely not in their way - once they'd done the surgery there wasn't a lot else for them to do. He loved me going in to see him, and the nurses liked having someone else to chat to too!

When my old share horse was hospitalised after an injury his owners and sometimes I (so sometimes 3 people) saw him every day (bit of a slog to Newmarket) and the vets/nurses were brilliant - seemed quite happy for us to come at any time in working hours, bring him willow/ash branches/grass, get him out for a pick of grass when he was able. He was there three weeks and the staff were models of forebearance. I think they (the horses) like to see a familiar face - I don't think Murf would have been out in 3 weeks if we'd hardly turned up as he was quite a sulker. I'm sure they won't mind when you go - he's your horse!

When my girl was at the vets last year I phoned them up to ask when I could visit. They were more than happy for me to go, I went up with my tack box and gave her a lovely groom with lots of cuddles after.

I suspect I might not get a cuddle! More likely to be bitten! She doesn't like box rest much. It makes her grumpy. I'll go and see her on the way home from work tomorrow though.

I used to go ad see my pony when ever I had a spare moment. He was at moulton college and I don't think I ever actually saw anybody around to actually get in the way of. I was concerned my boy would hate beig there but he actually loved it. He got to be so nosey

TBH if one of ours has to stay at the vets we leave them with nothing, the vets say if you leave a headcollar you may not get it back and I dont expect them to groom them, and I ring when I know the operation is over or the vet will ring me to let me know what happened or what they thought and then I'll get a phone call when they are ready for home. They are usually only gone a couple of days and I wouldn't be ringing every day or going to visit if a mare was at stud for a few days so I don't feel it should be any different at the vets. It may be different if they are your only horse but when you've got a few others they keep you busy at home.(G I sound heartless:D)

YM went to see her mare who is also in this evening and said Nits was weaving away quite happily so she's obviously fine. Nitty didn't even bother to scream at her. She said that she can see her stable mate so it's like a home away from home for the pair of them at the moment.

My friend who is a surgical vet there (and would normally have done it but didn't want to cut open the horse of a mate) said she dropped in this morning (was supposed to be working at her other job) and spied on her being winched in to surgery to make sure she was ok.

ETA: thanks for all the lovely good wishes for her :)

And TBB, not heartless at all. I haven't been in yet and she's been there a few days now. She'll be in over a week though and I think for her sake she might like to see a familiar face. She is really only used to me so is probably a bit of a shock to her. If she was coming home tomorrow or Thursday I'd just go and pick her up when she was ready.
