How long before due date are you supposed to worm your mare? and which wormer do you use?
if you worm her before foaling, do you also worm her after?
thanks

I usually worm a week before - a bit of a lottery though. I know others recommend the day of foaling. With Ivermectin.

I have an interesting article from Robert Eustace, Laminitis Trust. After reading this we organised our grazing for foals. That is we do not graze foals on a paddock grazed by other foals, untill it has been rested for over a year and had hay taken off it. This year's will go onto a paddock last grazed by my stallion, now 6 years old.

Only once very mild case of scour in 6 years.

My broodmares remain on the same worming schedule as all my other mature horses right up until they foal. within 12 hours of foaling they are wormed with a wormer which has ivermectin in it. So usually the way it works out, they've been wormed about a month prior to foaling, then they are wormed again on the day. After the worming on foaling day, they're put back onto the regular schedule. The foals are wormed monthly however.
