I've had my mare 5 years and came off her for the first time on Sunday. Luckily I landed on my well padded bum so did not do any serious damage. The falls I had on previous horses all involved jumping which is fair enough - you expect to fall off when jumping now and again. But out for a quiet Sunday walk you expect to remain on board! Its not even as if she spooked or anything, just went straight from standstill to bronco for no apparent reason. Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

I last fell of in January, after falling off 3 times when my mare was on trial, clearly buying her was good luck

I've had Daisy nearly two years and hadn't fallen off despite her best efforts until a month ago when I fell off twice in two weeks, first time she spooked out hacking and I was over her shoulder so quickly I was on the ground before I realised what had happened, second time was a week later, hacking on my own we had a disagreement about which way to turn at a fork in the path while cantering along. She ended up going the way I wanted but unforunately her momentum carried my body the other way

At a sponsored ride in april - we were going over a jump in slow motion due to the horrendous ground, and I just went catapulting (sp?) out of the saddle, because I thought she wouldn't jump it - but wow she did!!! Before I landed she was off in a mad dash to catch up with the next group of horses!!!!

NO , but in October I was drinking a bottle of water while sat on my horse and then asked other half to take it from me .
To which he replyed drop it on the floor to which I said no as it would spook Ronaldo , as I handed it too other half he pulled his hand away and it spooked Ronaldo . And off I fell and fractured my finger , bloody men !

nearly fell off tonight!! lol horse was getting some "encouragement" from person on ground and he bucked 4 times!! these are no ordinary bucks as he could buck for england!! he puts his head right between his legs and got his back end up incredibly vertical

apart from that cant rememeber... TOUCH WOOD!!

I last fell off in Feb. Was at an SJ comp warming up... horse decided to tank into jump and duck out at last second- I was catapulted and landed on one leg which then had to be screwed back together again.

I do ride other horses now, as my old boy is not ridden so much, and I know by saying this I will be off within a week

.....however I have owned my old boy for nearly 17 years, and was off twice in the first year, I came off him when he slipped over once and then when I pulled him over (by mistake!) as he tried to tank off in canter I turned him tooooo sharply, so 16 years ago ..... wait for it tho I can feel the thump

I last fell off my horse when I accidentally electrocuted him - sure enough he bucked me off!

you can't say that and leave us hanging, how exactly?

Hope I'm not tempting fate here! Last fell off just over ten years ago - my horse discovered she could get me off by spinning and dropping her shoulder, and fall off I did, and did, and did! Each time, I fell off backwards, hitting the back of my head. I cannot tell you the number of times I walked home (horse had buggered off!) trying hard to remember what I'd had for brekkie, or even getting on the horse at all!

Sold her and moved on...........to the rug-ripper (see another post!!).

I can relate to that, IZT!!

Last time I rode is the last time I fell off. This was at the beginning of November when trying out a horse for sale. Got jumped off, landed on feet and broke leg in two places and dislocated ankle...will be out of action for months!

Have ridden for years and had hundreds of falls, but never broken anything before.

i fell off about 2 weeks ago.

i hadnt cantered for ages and went round the school one lap then Frankie bucked about 4 times - i came straight off. and with an audience as well

I last fell off in April, I was trying a horse to buy and went to pop over a 1ft cross pole, horse jumped about 3ft in the air and catapulted me out of the saddle - I landed face down and broke my nose and a finger and bled all over the owners cream jods!!

I've not fallen off George.......yet (touches lots of wood), although had a close call today when he tripped in the school, but thankfully my 'oh sh*t' strap saved me!

*Cough* When I fractured my L2 vertebrae extremely badly in 2005, which then required a bone graft from the hip and a load of titanium scaffolding to repair it. I am VERY eager not to fall off again because I dread to think of the consequences.

ON honeymoon in Canada last summer... I think the owner had forgeetten we were coming, I had an ancient mare that had obviously been dragged out of the field and retirement just for me, I believe she had one show on for luck! And my novice husband had a just broken 4 year old. They were both very well behaved, bit un nerving riding western though, the long and low thing seems to be taken to extremes.

The mare I was on buried us both whilst cantering, I was on my feet before she was, we were both fine, lucky as of course no hat!

Last time I came off my lad was four years ago, so I am overdue a fall, the sod dropped a shoulder and whipped around in walk, and dumped me in a farm lane which was used twice a day to bring cows in for milking. I was sat in six inches of slurry!!

Oh goodness, have held off opening this thread as I know when I comment the inevitable will happen and I wil come off soon

The last time I came off was about 2 years ago - schooling Zante up the long side, concentration wondering, bloody yard goat jumped through the fence and spooked mare and I was off before I knew what had happened - totally my own fault!
