I have just bought a beautiful Welsh section D mare in foal. I was told she was due end March time/early April at latest. Looking at the stallion certificate it says she was running with the stallion during May/June 2012 so unsure of a definite conception date. She was scanned in foal on 1st September stating to be 3/4 months pregnant. This is my first pregnant mare/foal so is very new to me and very exciting but from the things I've been reading I'm guessing her foal will be born more end April/early May? Anyone else have any ideas or guesses on due date? She is 4 years old and it will be her first foal. Thankyou!

She will be due April / May time then... she could foal safely a month either side... no telling whether she will be early or late - really depends on the mare. Watch for udder development (but this may be a tricky one with her being a maiden as she may not bag up until the day before!) and changes in her general mood.

Best indicator IMO is going very slack either side of the tail. When her muscles are like jelly you know you aren't too far away.

Hopefully being Welshy she'll pop it out all by herself when there's good weather and you'll just turn up to a healthy foal!
