Mine have been out all winter. My youngster naked and my clipped boy lightly rugged. I'm whipping his rug off today and leaving him naked all weekend so he can enjoy the sun on his back and hopefully start moulting!
Mine will be in at night (generally for 8-10 horse as I turn out early and bring in late) for rest of the month at this rate. Fields are still v wet and trying to limit the continuous poaching. I may leave them out at the weekend as a treat (they were out last night as in today waiting for the farrier and they loved it) - they don't want to come in anymore! Rugs are off on days like today although lightweight on my riding mare as she loves to roll in the mud and as it's clay it's a nightmare to brush off!
I generally prefer working horses not to be out 24/7 so my competition horse will probably switch to out overnight and in during day end April/early May.
The non competition horses live out 24/7 anyway. Rugs removed today, happy hairy horses!
Mine (3Tb's) have been out all winter. I have kept them in a couple of nights to let their legs and feet dry out or because I was there early in the am the next day and it was easier for me. Our summer grazing has been rested since last October, if the weather picks up and the land dries they will be moving into it at the beginning of April. Can't wait! Though not looking forward to dealing with 3 'full of spring grass' thoroughbreds!
Laminitis risk indicator says it is very high so be careful, esp horses having not had grass for a while.
Mine love to go out but so used to coming in even in summer they are standing by the gate at lunch time and when i do leave them out they are so unhappy when i arrive in the morning, clearly stressed, so i just bring mine in after 6 hours which is enough grass time for them.
I have use of a barn that they can go in to instead of a stable so that will be nice, more space to move around
