When you leave a livery yard....

Only ever left one yard where we didn't trust the YO. That was whilst we were there, so no way would I have trusted her whilst serving notice! So I put the horses on the trailer first, then went to tell her we were moving. Had got all their tack in the boot of the car too and their rugs. Just had to go back for rubber mats after we'd dropped the horses off at their new home.
 
It must be horrible to leave the yard on such bad terms....when ever we've had liveries leave for one reason or another its always been on good terms....

Even helping them move their horses/gear etc! and they always come back to ride with us.
 
I count myself VERY lucky then! I've moved yards twice in my long time of owning horses - both times from a DIY to a DIY and each time, gave a month's notice, handed over the last payment and gradually moved my things without any bother at all! Last time I moved (over 7 years ago now) the YO even offered to help me transport all my hay and straw to the new yard free of charge!

when I decided to move back to his yard he went up to the old yard in his truck and loaded 10 bales of my hay in for me

I moved the pony up from Sussex last February as loan fell through. Moved her to a certain yard in Bexley. Anyway, only had a couple of days to find a place and move her - went to view in the dark, place was amazing for facilities. Told fields were a little boggy, but figured couldn't be that bad.

Anyway, got her delivered there and tried to take her to field. Was a bloody bog to get to it, through another field. Literally mud up to knees, I fell over etc. Never, ever seen anything like it, and not a blade of grass.
Felt so bad leaving her in a field with 20 other horses she had never met.

Next day, hadn't moved. Day after got herself stuck behind a XC fence. So found another place, literally just a field, but plush, green no mud. Tacked her up. Hacked over.

Two days later the old livery yard hadn't called me. They didn't even notice the animal was missing. Oh my god. Two days. I rung them up and told them she was gone. They didn't seem bothered, so that was a 40 pound a day livery yard (80 for the month). GUess I got what I paid for.
 
I can't believe some of the things i've read here - these people are supposed to be running business's for goodness sake! I have only left one yard - the YO was great as he understood my reasons for leaving (3 owners had 3 horses each and thought they owned the yard and the rest of us were just in their way). Never crossed my mind that anything would happen to my girl or stuff during my months notice. Just sitting here thanking my lucky stars at how nice my previous YO was and my current YO is!
 
There were 9 of us moving from a yard we were at,all going to same place as unhappy with certain things on yard.One girls pony(only had it 2 weeks)came in from field with a deep cut into tendon on hind leg.Ok accidents happen but vet took owner aside and asked if there was any bad feeling about leaving as he was concerned that cut was too clean and sliced downwards nearly right through tendon.There was no jagged dirty look to skin right enough.Pony did get pts week or so later.
Will say that made me VERY wary when leaving yards if I had reason to or not.couldn't settle til deed was done
 
i gave my notice in to the yard i was at. gave a months notice! i was best friends with there daughter. i got told to leave asap coz of the daughter and what she might say or do to me. needless to say she was a horrible cow to me when she found out. (i was only 15) and when i was younger on a livery yard. some one else on the yard handed in notice and it was a fully grown women and her father. the reason she left was the YO was bulling her and being very horrid about her. her dad confronted YO about this when handing in notice. the YO husband ended up pinning the father up against the wall. NOT normal lol.
 
Can't believe that some yards can be like this. I have been at 5 yards over the time i have owned my horses. I have left every yard on good terms and have not felt worried about my horses welfare after I have given notice.

Also, have never had to give my passport to the YO apart from when I had my horse on working livery at the local college. I knew where the passport was and was able to get it out any time I needed it.

Depends on the yard. The couple where I've had a bad feeling I've told them & moved the horse the next day although I've still paid the notice period. Despite that one actually said that I couldn't move immediately - like she was going to stop me!

Generally I haven't had a problem though & have stayed on good terms with old YOs.

The yard I am at now I trust the YO completely he is a lovely man and everyone on the yard gets along great.

Last yard I was at was nice too until I bought £70 of shavings and one of the girls offered to buy them from me.

Im still waiting on the money 2 years later after letters etc she is not willing to part with the cash so I have put it down to a lesson learned.
