Don't use oil use kevin bacons hoof grease only put on insides during summer once or twice per week and outsides in summer daily. put on outsides weekly during winter.

I use kevin bacon hoof dressing on the hoof wall and sound shot every day in the summer.

In the winter I only do it twice a week because it takes ages to wash feet and wait for them to dry. I always find it easiest to do after they've been shod because it goes in all the old nail holes etc better.

Hoof oil on the outer for showing only.

Outer and inner with effol during summer months to help soften hoof so the don't crack up. My boy is barefoot.

We only use water based hoof oils as they allow the hoof to breathe still, that is the only type of oil my farrier will let me use!
only put on for hunting/competitions or clinics

I don't use the stuff.
Like North horse (Hello by the way) I rub on Baby oil with a cloth if the occasion merits shiny hooves.

only use it for hunting but use a different foot cream everyday.

Now I don;t use it often butt what does the hoof oil do to be so bad?

I use a solid hoof oil about once a week - lincoln does a nice one. According to advice from farriers it helps to give the hoof the elasticity they need to act as shock absorbers (apparently!!) Seems to work well - Maisey feet are super strong.

Hx

It stops the hoof absorbing essential water from the ground. Research has shown that the hoof shrinks when oil is applied, which is bad as the hoof won't be a natural shape and the quality of the hoof is awful when oil is applied everyday. My farrier hates the stuff.

The only time I would ever use hoof oil is for showing, or somekind of presentation of the horse (not vetting). Would never use it on the sole though! however, I much prefer to use baby oil in these situations!! easier to apply and looks good for longer - also cheaper and looks better on white feet!

I put hoof dressing on the sole and wall. Mine still allows the hoof to 'breath', letting moisture in and out of the hoof while maintaining elasticity and general health. My boys hooves have never looked so good since I started using it!

Use Effol when I can be ar$ed....which isn't very often, and only on the hoof wall

When I was a kid we were taught to put hoof oil on the soles when it snowed though....to prevent balling in the foot. These days we just ride in the indoor instead
