i was just wondering when you go showjumping BSJA or just Unaff when you see people wearing tweed to you automaticly think there a eventer?

because i wear tweed and i have never evented in my life lol :)
just wondered?

not necessarily always think eventer...

*sees tweed jacket* - ''hmm..tweed jacket'' or i blindly don't notice as i'm actually too busy sorting out my own horse to worry what others are wearing :)

*sees tweed jacket, 5 point breastplate, skull cap hat* - ''eventer'' :p

No, I wouldn't. Tweed is also worn in the show ring so its not just eventers. To be honest, I AM and eventer and I never wear a tweed jacket... I wear a black show jacket. And for BSJA I wear one of those Whitaker modern jackets (ie. not the traditional ones). I do have a tweed jacket but have only ever worn it for M&M show classes, but dont have a M&M anymore... Anyone want a very nice tweed?!

I never though that.
I wear my lovely tweed for showjumping cos it looks smarter on my horse and matches my hat and horse.
One would have to be blind to assume my horse is an eventer, she's a M&M show horse with a forelock down to her nostrils.
LOL!

I used to wear tweed as my old horse was grey and no matter how hard I tried I would always end up covered in grey hairs - even when he was clipped out. For me it was a damage limitation exercise. I have tweed for showing and navy for sj and stressage.

Nope, I simply 'Rather you than me, tweed bloody itches!' All tweed jackets I have tried on have indeed felt awful, and that's about all I think.

You do seem to have some bizarre obsession with tweed & eventers though...... hmmmm

somebody that cant afford a proper jacket. (!)
I know the original comment was about SJing......but

*ahem!* My tweed cost £225....but then I don't SJ, I show.
Conversely, if you see a black jacket in a show ring, you think -incorrect!
IMO Black jacket = £35 from Shires
Tweed jacket = £200+ from Pretty Ponies/Designer Browbands etc.
We showing people are strange, I guess!

The only way to see if someone has competed BE is to look for, as my boyf pointed out yesterday, a "bit of Goodyear advertising wrapped around their helmet strap". But clearly the absence of said Goodyear advertising does not equal lack of BE participation and may equal plethora of hats instead. You just never can tell.

Haha! Its confusing nowadays isn't it - by osmosis I assume, dressage riders seem to have as much dead sheep as the show jumpers these days and the show jumpers have patent boots and diamante... I even had my first ever sighting of man wearing Ugg boots for the first time at BD regionals at the weekend. :-0

yes its all in the accessories- an eventer will also be sporting a skull cap with cover part way up, possibly a breastplate (although i don't as my D ring fell off my saddle) and maybe brown boots... and no fluff under the saddle/no earmuffs on horse! :D

Sorry....did you say a man wearing Ugg boots.....oh my lordy be......and in August too.......class!!! Whatever next!

i have a tweed jacket and a skull cap and i definatly don't event! i don't really 'think' anything, just 'that's a nice jacket'. My black jacket is horrible, so i'd chose the tweed one over that for anything :) and talking of jackets, would white jods look silly with a green jacket?

oh and i hate it when people wear their skull cap covers literally with the peak half way up the hat!

Technically and also traditionally i guess Tweed should be worn at the lower levels or by less experienced riders i.e eventers below Novice level and dressage below elementary level.
For showing tweed is also correct for most classes and also out hunting tweed should be worn by those whi are less experienced in the field and so the masters can be easily identified as they are not wearing tweed.
Sj dress seems to be a free for all! Personally from my own SJ experiences there are not many smartly dressed Sj out there! As they are more interested in buying the latest trends rather than sticking with the smart traditional dress. (Sorry if i offend any one! :( )

Not for showing, SJ or dressage (though might wear black jacket for dressage if i have the white jods). ive seen a pic in a magazine of someone wearing white jods with a green jacket and it looks ok.

To the person who said 'people who can't afford one'!!
I do also own a black Mears jacket but I prefer my Mears pytchley green tweed for all activities on my M&M horse including showjumping and stressage.
the tweed cost me £250 so errr I think I can afford to dress properly, meanwhile the Mears black one cost £25 second hand and I never wear it as I just feel so wrong wearing a black show jacket on a native :/

It was a joke!

give me a tweed jacket over those ghastly spangly things the showjumpers wear anyday. Sjers are so untidy with their hair flapping about and their jazzy jackets. At least in tweed the rider blends in to the hedge

Haha. Conservative, much? ;-) Equestrian sports have been very slow in embracing new product technology and I'm glad that finally there is the option of competing in clothes that stretch and breathe!

Agree with this! I think black *can* look a bit 'Essex girl'... (waits with bated breath for arrival of Essex-dweller lynch mob)

Whereas tweed is very smart in all situations!

see thats why i would see you and not think "eventer" because your skull cap cover would be pulled down properly :D
with tweed really you should wear cream/beige jods (or those awful canary ones if you want!). i wear a white shirt with my tweed but a green stock...
