When your horse is competed by a pro, who gets the rosettes?

Just a silly question really! One of my horses is based with a competition rider about 2 hours drive away. I go and watch him compete whenever I can and the chap that has him is doing very well with him. He has had a lot of placings and qualified for a couple of things.

With every horse that I have had, I have a little box of photographs and a couple of rosettes/sashes that they have won inside. I would really like to do the same with this horse. I have a couple of photographs I have bought of him but I have none of the rosettes he has won. We get any prize money he has won but there has been no talk of rosettes. Is it considered rude to ask him if I could have a couple of them for my little box?
 
Ordinarily in my experience the rider keeps the prize money, although when it gets to a serious amount negotiations are made, and the owner has the rosettes etc.
that's how we have always worked it.

I don't however think it is rude to ask for a couple of rosettes at all; they can only say no and I doubt they would to be fair- in general frillies matter less to professionals :)
 
Far from a pro, but when I've competed horses for people they've kept the rosettes and prize money. They pay the entries and pay me to ride, they get the prizes.
 
I keep the rosettes because he is my horse and I pay the entry fee - any prize money we may win (long way off yet) will go towards entry fees.

Prizes go to the horse and so to the owner unless another arrangement has been made.

The only reason I can think of for ruhr pro specifically wanting the rosettes is if they do some sort of display for the season in the lorry or on the yard. I would certainly still ask though!
 
I keep all prizes and rosettes from mine...I am a rosette saddo and have them hung up in the wagon and the prize money goes in a pot to pay for the next lot of entries :)

I am a bit of a rosette saddo as well haha! It's nice to be able to look at them when you are having a bit of a down day!
 
The pros I know are not interested in keeping the rosettes. Money is more important though. No harm in asking, for all you know he throws them away!
 
my instructor (so not a pro but still) competes mine and pays entry and fuel fees and she keeps prize money and rosettes. if it was ever any huge prize money then we would probably split it in some way or another but i dont ask for the prize money as she's payed for the entrys and the fuel so it (hopefully) gives that money back to her and i dont ask for the rosettes because I only like keeping rosettes which i've won :)

as others have said, i'm sure your pro would mind you asking :D
 
We where on the phone to him last night about arranging the saddler and we brought it up, he said I could have all the ones he has and he will bring them when we see him on monday :D he said he felt a built guilty though because he traded some in for coffee at a show centre. I don't mind though because I have some for my box now :)
 
Oh good :) and I don't blame him for trading the minor ones in sometimes for a coffee- I think it's a good idea!

Looking through- I give prize money to the rider but I don't pay unless they don't win any. What I would pay them is less than any winnings if they were placed, so that's how we have always worked it but it is an infrequent thing :)
 
I personally have been offered to keep rosettes by a few of the owners I've ridden for. Not being an official 'pro' I guess I still like them!!! However I would never expect rosettes - it's te owners call if they want or not!! I would never keep trophies or championship rosettes and sases though.
