when your horse is in 24/7

He's not in 24/7 at the mo but will definitely be mucking out twice a day when/if he is. His stable is quite little for the size of him and he pees/poos a lot!! Wouldn't want him stood in a s**t tip half of the time.

When my mare had to stay in for some days last winter due to awful weather I still only mucked out once a day. My YO when I lived in Warks usually turned out in the morning so instead would give a haynet. My mare only poo'd at the back of the stable so wasnt standing in it so I chose not to pay for her to be mucked out in morning.

My new boy, on the otherhand, poos all over the stable. I am at a new yard in Aberdeenshire now and my YO turns out and brings in as part of the monthly livery so if he had to stay in all day she would skip out in morning for me then i'd muck out in evening.

If for whatever reason they have to stay in 24/7, they are mucked out once and then skipped out/poo picked throughout the day, probably another 2-3 times.
The reason is mainly economy - the quicker the poo is removed, the longer the bedding lasts.

yes this is my view on it. My TB is a complete scruff and poos/pees everywhere. When he's in (not all the time- just the odd day/ for the farrier or whatever) I would normally muck out/skip out twice a day- however, his loaner thinks that as long as he's been fed he just needs one muck out at tea time- so he ends up stood in poo all day. i really don't know how to broach the subject as she's a fab loaner otherwise and don't want to look like i'm 'having a go'!

I had to have my daughters pony in for weeks 24/7 when recovering from lami.
She's only 13.1hh but has a big stable, so I got away with just once per day.
She helped as she nearly alwasy bury's her poos so she can lay down on a clean bed x

What bedding is he on? Badger is on Straw and has an excessively big thick bed and it is much less messy in the morning this way... still not really something you can say to your loaner though!

straw...but she doesn't have it that deep (another issue ) so its gets really messy. when they come in for winter properly (ie in at night) i'm going to have to do something about the bed myself...
