When your vet recommends a supplement...

It's probably one that they've found good results with, but I'd be inclined to research the ingredients and see if there are any cheaper equivalents before shelling out.

Try contacting someone like Viovet (based in Markyate, on the Beds/Herts border) to see if they can get it cheaper for you

i have used 2 different practices in the last year and have been recommended 2 different supplements.

#1 - i am sure the vet was just trying to sell it as i dare say she got some commission on it - she couldnt really tell me WHY i should use that over others just that it was the best around (how easy is that to say!)

#2 - the vet brought a large tub with her, but i said i was a bit hesitant and she opened it up, sold me enough for 9 days and said i could see what i thought, how a few others had seen fab results with it and i could either get it on the internet or via them, it was no hassle whichever i did. They were selling it for over £80 - i got it online for £34 with free delivery! The vets asked if i managed to get some and were really happy to hear i had and that she was going to be having it long term. I honestly think that recommendation was genuine!

interestingly, the 2nd one, and what i have bought doesnt seem that well known when you google it but i have seen an improvement after a few days of it so thats good enough for me :-)

I am wary of any business which tries to sell me a 'product', especially if it is for long term use. I would never buy my dog food from the vet, they are selling it to make the best profit for them, which is fair enough, but I'm not going to do that, when I can get acceptable food, much cheaper.

I would prefer if they recommended something for me to source... Anything from a vet is guaranteed to be triple the price!
