I don't. She gets a good wash down and a thorough check, but that's it. We don't have any facilities on the lorry to keep ice frozen all day, and I'm not convinced that clays do anything useful. My mare has been competing for 5 years like this without any problems.
i remove boots straight after xc (before removing tack) and wash off legs immediately to get temp down, then i tend to use chilled boots or ice boots for 15 mins or so. after that i usually bandage lightly, or sometimes leave legs naked, depends on the horse. if ground was firmish i'll put ice gel or similar on.
i don't use any clays etc any more, they can mask things, and if there's a tiny nick you're missed they can cause enormous problems.
I don't, like milliepops just a good wash down/check- we also don't have any facilities. She gets turned out in the field as soon as we get back so she doesn't seize up. Have never had a lame horse yet
If run hard or ground hard, cool boots on for 15/20 mins, then wash down, then ice gel, then I bandage before we travel home, will leave bandaged until morning.
Well, we bandage because Ellie's too sensitive for boots but that makes no difference I suppose. Her bandages get taken off with her saddle straight after her round and she's washed and walked. When she's cooled off we put freezer icepacks inside double layered tubi-grip. We just keep the ice inside the coolbag we got from Tescos, under our lunch!
i ice tight legs and then wrap in brown paper bags or cling film for journey home. i then take wrapper off and leave it overnight to dry and then i brush it off. seems to work for my lot
