I know clipping month is coming up soon, but when excactly is it? My horse is becoming sweaty after rides and its getting a bit cold (Other than this week!!:)) to wash him off.
My horses has only just started to grow out his coat, should I wait to its grown to full winter length before clipping? Or does this not really matter?

my poor horse melting (after 20 mins lunge in the evening) so i had to give him chaser clip (half neck and half belly) wouldnt normally do this soo early but needs must ! will prob do blanket clip later

lady next door to me has pony not even ridden but she has had to do similar as it is sweating just stood in shade (shetland x)

Oh okay, My horse is not too bad as he has not quite got his winter coat through just yet. When to people normaly do it? Mid october? I have an XRacer, so very fine coat, I will be giving him chaser clip too, so he does not get too cold in the feild!:)

Many people clip around the end of October to traditionally coincide with the hunt Opening Meet. The coat continues to grow up to around Christmas, & if you clip then or new year, you can usually get away without clipping a TB again. However, many people clip more to keep a tidy appearance. I used to clip my TB last week in Oct, mid Nov & then in time for Boxing Day.

With ponies one might wish to clip earlier. I'm hoping to get mine done next week, but wish I'd had it done this week to cool her down!

I refuse to admit when I start clipping the racehorses as I don't want to know how many months it goes on for!

If asked my happy reply is mid-Novemer to mid-January! In reality - October onwards as needs must ... Blah!
