Where are all the 15.2hh's? And does anyone LWVTB any more?

I'm still looking for a 15.2hh (approx, will consider 15.1hh - 15.3hh) safe and sensible allrounder but there seem to be so few horses around that size for sale. I can find ones that tick all the boxes but are 14.2hh or 14.3hh and there are umpteen 16.1hh and 16.2hh's but don't want a horse that big. Anyone else looking for a similar size and having the same problem?

Also does anyone LWVTB or trial anymore? Having had bad buying experience before, I now would prefer to LWVTB so I can be sure we are right for each other before purchasing. But I don't think people do this much now which I can understand although some people do offer LWVTB from their yard which is fair enough. What a nightmare it is buying a horse!

That is a very specific height range so you will be a bit limited by that to start with. Not many people do trials or loans as you hear so many horror stories of things going wrong

Some dealers do a couple of weeks trial have you thought of that? Although it's not really long enough for some horses to settle and show their true colours

Its probably THE most sought after height range. (I'm looking it it too...) LWVTB are risky for the seller so tend to be less common with the types that you could sell outright more easily.

There's quite a few on arabianlines that are in that height range. There's a nice TB x Welsh D x Arab mare that's 15hh and sounds like a she could be a super allrounder. As she was foaled 2010, she could grow a tad more.

I have a 15.2hh but I found her through word of mouth she hadnt been advertised :P

Regarding the LWVTB I have recently sold a 16hh horse and had 12 phone calls the day the advert went online and 3 viewing lined up the very next day. The first people to view bought her there and then subject to vetting. I would not have risked a loan because what if something happened to my horse? I hate to say it but looking in the hight range you are looking its the most popular and there will be loads of people willing to just buy off one or two viewings so sellers would not even need to consider LWVTB. Good luck with your search :)

Are you still looking and what are your other requirements (age/background/breeding etc) I found my perfect 15.2 all rounder in Ireland as a youngster - gorsebridge horse sales and I know a lot of other great 15.2s that have come from there. A friend of mine breeds and has a couple of smaller horses if you're interested pm me

Yeh it does seem to be a popular height, I think there must be lots of people like me (and some of my friends) who don't like to ride the bigger 16-16.2hh horses.
I am considering buying from a reputable dealer, at least they often have several you can try at once too. Just need to find out who the reputable ones are ...
Thanks Faracat, will check out arabianlines, the mare sounds lovely.
Totally appreciate LWVTB is not without risk, I guess I will just have to make do with 2 decent viewings, although more often than not even that isn't possible if there are people lined up for viewings who are happy to make a decision there and then after just 1 viewing.
Yes I have even considered buying in Ireland but would need a good (and trustworthy) contact there as I wouldn't feel happy buying from the sales myself.
Emmah you were lucky, word of mouth is still the best way to buy a horse:-)

Have you looked for a Morgan horse? Around 15 hh +. If well brought up, should have co-operative temperament, generally sensible, and willing to tackle anything. Morgans are currently doing BHS eventing, trec, show jumping, dressage, hunting, endurance as well as Morgan showing. Be strict about conformation and find out if "hot" showing bloodline or family/sport horse breeding.

I have a nice 15.3 WB, wouldn't say she's the easiest ride but we're doing well at bd at the moment, I got her from a friend who bred her. If I was selling I wouldn't do lwvtb I would however stay in touch with new owner incase anything went wrong .

I've spent nearly a year looking for a 15.2 - 16hh horse suitable for hacking and with good paces for dressage. Just bought a 16.2hh that was recommended to me before he came on the market. Interestingly, if I'd seen him advertised I would have discounted him as too big but although he has big paces he's less physical too ride than my 16hh and so far seems to be very mannerly. When I sell I'm happy for a buyer to come as many times as they like and do whatever they want (within reason) but I'd be very reluctant to LWVTB unless I knew the person well. I tried new horse 3 times and took trainer with me before buying but I never think you really know what you've got until you've had them several months.

Ooh haven't thought of a Morgan horse, know they're big in the US but didn't realise they were available in this country.
Dollymix I'm in South Lincs and just looking for a hack/general allrounder, fun rides, local shows, small hunter trials etc so all very low key, safe and sensible but not a plod but it seems half the country is looking for the same thing!
Well I would look at chunky 15hh (Welsh D's eg or anything that rode bigger than its size - I once rode a friend's Welshie mare who was just shy of 15hh and she had the most amazing huge ground covering strides, felt like a 16hh) and similarly would consider 16hh if a slighter build, not sure about 16.1hh unless most of that was wither but then that tends to be more TB types which aren't really my bag. I had a 16.2hh a few years ago, loved him to bits but in the end had to sell him as I just felt overhorsed as I couldn't get my legs around him and was quite ineffective as a rider! Although to be fair he was a good chunky mw so may be different with a slighter build

Have you seen the 15.2hh skewbald super all rounder/RC advertised >>>>>>>>

In your part of the country too!

I recently found my wonderful 15.2hh boy from a dedicated sweep of ALL the on line ads several times a day! I had him on a 4 week trial - paid in full but had an agreement that I could return him in the same condition as I took him, if within 4 weeks we didn't work out together. I think that gave me the confidence to enjoy him and I've now had him 5 months and could not be happier :) He was recently over from Ireland and came from a lady who buys 1 a year to bring on and sell.
