Where are all the arabs?

Why is it so hard to find an arab to ride? There are so many for sale that are unbroken, but hardly any that are just regular riding horses. I have been looking in vain for about 6 months now (for a 15 hand, grey preferably, beautiful sane and friendly arab). Admittedly I am a relative novice (returned to riding about 18 months ago, expert backup), but even so should it be impossible to find one? On the arab sites everyone sings their praises as riding horses, but this does not seem to translate into real horses for sale. I have considered a non arab, but this is my lifetime horse and for some reason that has to be an arab. There is an oldie for sale who looks very nice, but so far away. I only want to hack, a bit of schooling, and do some fun rides. Is it too much to ask?

All the pure breds i know are used for showing - the people that own them couldnt give a monkeys about riding them! I know tonnes of anglos but very few pure breds for sale - keep looking though it will be worth the wait if its fun rides you want to do!

There are always ridden Arabs for sale on Arabian Lines, and a lovely grey gelding was sold quite recently.
All the people I know who own purebred Arabs, myself included, ride them.

I had a similar problem, except I was loking for anything BUT a grey. Plus I wanted something five years old and recently broken (very rare here), mainly for endurance.

Ended up with a very Araby, grey Anglo 16hh gelding (in siggy). He is a lovely boy, don't be afraid to go for a part bred - it's not as if you are breeding, after all

Also, whilst I *love* (even after some tantrums yesterday...) my chestnut share Arab-x (he is mostly Arab and most of that is Crabbet) he'd have terrified me as a novice.

Perhaps if you're looking for a lifetime horse you should try a share or two first so you can be ready for a bit more of a challenge (there are sane Arab hacks but it isn't what they are famous for!) when you do come across your dream horse.

Good luck!

Put a wanted ad up on arabianlines and you will find something! Also, there are a couple of nice ones advertised on the SEAHG website.... it's cold and dark and miserable at the moment - any arabs with any sense are tucked up cosy with their hooves up

I'm also looking for an arab at the moment. I have been to see a couple which were lovely, just not right for me but I know mine's out there somewhere. Good luck in your search, and let us know when you find your arab

I would second putting a wanted ad on Arabian Lines and then possibly a post on their forum (with the admin's permission as they are very arsey).

You could also look at the classifieds on the Endurance GB website.

It is my Arab's and mine 20th anniversary this month. If I could have one wish, it would be to turn the clock back and have the time all over again. Keep looking, your dream horse is out there and will be very cheap at the mo!

I agree I wanted an Arab ( always have my dream horse would be a chestnut Arab

) But fould my little mare who at the time was sold as a TB X who I later found out was an Arab X Cob . I was so so pleased! She is a delight, everything and more than I could have ever wanted. So chin up keep looking one will come along.

It took me a year of looking, but I have found my safe and sane purebred arab (Touches wood, again and again!!)

She comes home in just over a week - just keep looking, yours will come along.

I found mine through putting a wanted ad on arabian lines

keep looking , you will find one!!!!!!!!
I have had my purebred for 15 years...
He is 100 per cent superstar as a riding horse, completely unfault worthy. I broke him myself at 16, and hes been there for me ever since. Keep ;looking and you will get one honestly, good luck

Thanks everyone. The search continues...

Heidi i had suspected that it was people like you hanging on to their lovely horses that were the problem! In fact the only time I have come close to buying my arab, off an ad on arabianlines (price agreed, vet booked, transport provisionally booked) the owner changed her mind in tears and could no bear to sell him after all. I entirely understood as he was really sweet and cheerful as well as too pretty for a boy.

After about a 35 year wait I guess a few more months (years?!) won't kill me. I will try the wanted ad on Arabianlines; thanks for the suggestion.

Tamba your horse is beautiful!

BexandSpooky, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO pleased to hear that you have found your Arab at last! I bet you can't wait to get her home.

Sarahmb, I know of a grey Arab, gelding in Norfolk, looking for a home. Is that the right sort of area for you? I will p.m you the details.

Heidi thank you. I am in worcestershire but do not mind travelling a reasonable distance

Bexandspooky it would be lovely to see pictures of your arab when she arrives.
