Where are all the dedicated horsey people?

Im here! Just havent the opportunity or financial support to be able to turn it from a hopefull thought into reality!

Is there a reason you ask? Bad experience?

No its a friend who is looking for full time live in staff, on a wonderful yard with some exceptional horses. She just wants reliable people who work hard and are passionate about horses.
If you ask me she isnt offering a hard job, she is offering a lot more than some big livery yards that i have been on in the past with a lot more reward. All she gets is people who cant ride or think mucking 2 stables out in 2 hours acceptable people who say they are passionate but they cant muster up the enthusiasm to smile at all!
If someone had given me the same opportunity I would have worked my ass off! If i could ride i'd be moving in and taking the job myself....

Id love to be able to take a job like that and would happily work my arse off. Where I ride now I regularly give up my weekends to help out with everything, mucking out, washing horses, pulling etc
Id love to take a full time job there but simply cant afford to

we are the same, looking for live in staff. we are a small stud breeding sports horses. We rnt even looking for someone to muck out etc just ride!! we breed lovley youngsters who we breed for temp as well as ability to do a variety of jobs but primarily to showjump. can we find anyone!?! weve a lovley girl on the yard who loves to look a fter them etc but only like to hack.
As you ve quite rightly said 2 stables in 2 hours, weve had people say they are capable and when they ve come for interviews i wouldnt let them lead one never mind ride!!

I would loooovvveeeee a job like that and I'm a damn hard worker but I'm probably not a good enough rider

And seeing as I'm just about to buy a house, a change of job and cut in money isn't exactly viable. Dammit!

Tell me about it, but then seen as my biggest cost is my horse and i could rent my house out. It really isnt out of the question for me but then i cant ride so am neither use nor ornament apart from i can muck out more than 2 stables in 2 hours

ahhh but that the differnce you would be willing to learn, they come on the phone like they are john whitaker!!!
had someone come for an interview about 3 months ago who kept goin on about his showjumpers at home and his yard with 50 boxes all full with liveries!!! so why would you leave that??! i appreciate everyone needs experience but...

Im at the point of having to get my breeches on myself!! thats if they still fit!?!

I don't understand why people have to be so OTT about themselves, I find being honest and truthful about yourself and don't big yourself up too much, at least then they know what to expect and if you end up being better, then it's an added bonus. It's far better to get a chance to at least show them you're good

Haha, if only! He's great at DIY though, bless him. Saying that, he does want to possible own a farm one day, or more have some land so we can have a mixture of animals, and well, surely a mixture of horses is along those lines... Oh no, I wanna do it now!!

They are so funny but then you get the others who apply for jobs, on the application when asked what standard are your riding skills they say I can walk trot and canter!!
When i saw that one i nearly fell on the floor laughing, thing was i saw the name and i knew her from a past life - and yes she could just about walk trot and canter!!! Why apply for a job at a top yard when your skills clearly dont match those required.

I gave up looking in the end, downsized and do it all myself now

I am reliable (even if I'm ill), hardworking, can muck out properly in a matter of a few minutes, ride most things, and I even work Christmas Day without complaining!

The joys of being self-employed

I teach at an equine college and I look at most of the students and their rotten attitudes think jeez, what makes you think you are employable?

Ask her to let me know in about 2 1/2yrs time?! xP
Not the best rider in the world but learning all the time
laugh.gif
And though I don't do it too often at the moment, I CAN muck out a fair few stables in 2hrs!
tongue.gif
Will even sweep the yard and tidy the muck heap (god I hate filthy yards!)

Blimey I am have been looking for ages for a job like these...I am currently working at a RS and have to muck out about 8 stables in less than 2 hours and thats a full muck out (straw) re-fill waters chuck hay in, un rug, sweep the whole yard and prob be able to do 20 feeds in that time too...start at 8am and finish at 10.30 to do all that...then the rest of the work is grooming, pulling cleaning tack etc etc...
Cricky your not asking for much...so why you not getting the calibre?

A friend of mine is the head honcho at an Equestrian College. It is just so utterly ridiculous that some of these students are actually allowed to leave an EC with any Qualification whatsoever! Due to good old Health & Safety, they can never be mounted on a riccochet off the ceiling and walls person - and spend their entire college lives riding Total Schoolmasters. They then try to get a job on a yard - and cannot ride one side of anything. They also want a 9 to 5 day, 5 days a week (with horses??!!). Could some-one please tell me why they bother? Or is it just to impress their friends?

I did that for 8 years, gave up in january and would never do it again!! I loved it at first but not long before I left i was ready to either Kill myself or one of the other girls on the yard i was working with!

I'm looking for something like this.
I'm a bit out of practice in terms of working at professional speed but have done it before (and I can still muck out more than 2 stables in 2 hours!) and consider myself competent with most of my practice on problem ponies rather than school masters but because of a lack of competition experience and BHS quals I can't seem to get work.
I'd work my ass off if I got the chance, I'm a bit rusty now but really want to get back into horses on a day-to-day basis (must need my head examining!) and am a willing learner and hard worker but there just seems to be nothing out there.
So tell your friend to keep her head up, we do exist! And if the job's still open in the New Year, let me know!
