Where are all the good liveries? Rant!!

Sorry for being utterly pedantic and like a dog with a bone but..

There are plenty of other jobs where people worry about the care of something outside of the immediate responsibility of their job too. For example vets, doctors, dog walkers, child minders, nurses, teachers etc.

I'm not saying that that care isn't to be commended, I'm just saying that it is pretty normal and common to lots of other jobs too.

And i know plenty of vets/ doctors and geachers etc who are so frustrated with clients/ customers/ patients etc too. I think doctors (my brother is one) whinging about someone they help cure of lung cancer/ heart disease only to walk out the hospital and have a cigerette. Of course they sign an oath, yard owners just whinge on here! Haha

Please, honestly!! Where are you ;)

For real though:
There is NOWHERE round me that accepts DIYs except where the ponios are currently living and it's utterly substandard. Land lords refuse to do any maintenance unless chased.
Land prices are through the roof through here though so moving to our own place is not an option (yet!) - £400,000 for 5 acres with a dilapidated rusty barn and no running water? I don't think so...!

£400,000 for 5 acres is why people will not rent land on a DIY basis because financially it does not make sense, you either buy it to use yourself, to run a viable business or in some cases just as an investment and would rather it stayed empty than have the hassle of tenants, to an extent land needs very little maintenance to hold it's value and the income from renting out will barely cover the cost of topping, rolling and harrowing, throw in a bit of fencing and hedge cutting and a few acres will possibly bring in so little it is just not worth it when the land can be left.
You may be a lovely DIY livery but from the landowners point of view if it is their land they can do what they want with it and if it is substandard either you do some maintenance yourself or you move to a higher standard yard and probably pay double the price for the improved facilities.

I meant it!
I have a post on the sw thread, it says "reworded". Please have a look but chances are in the wrong map area!
If you are local we can certainly get ourheads together.

By 'glos' do you mean Gloucester? I'm south oxfordshire/just by west berks border. :(

Ah too far out for you! I am nine miles outside Gloucester on the forest side not Cotswold side, very near the river.
I think you may have more horses than we could take anyway but the fact you turn up every day and do all your own work, plugs poo picking means anyone would like to have you on their yard I am sure.

I find the good liveries are all on the good yards. There are some awful livery yards but I have found a brilliant one. Run as a business but not the sole income by someone who has horses himself. Its well managed and run well. Hes very fussy about who he takes and treats everyone professionally and kindly. Because of that people come and dont leave.
