Hi!

I am going crazy,I am home from Australia for the summer to see family etc and am desperately looking for work as I found that doing nothing just does not suit me.

I have literally applied to everything on Yard and Groom and still NOTHING.

I had one job lined up, but managed to lose my phone while riding and lost the number, and cannot get hold of the person again for love nor money. :(

I am willing to do ANYTHING. I've been doing Polo in Aus and there seem to be so many people looking for Polo Grooms, and yet can I get hold of any, hell no i cannot! i've made countless phonecalls!

All i need is a half decent wage, somewhere to live and im good to go. I'll g ANYWHERE in the country, I have a car for the next 4 weeks anyway, after that it's doubtful, but still! Even four weeks work would do me!

Is anyone else finding work? Surely it shouldn't be this hard?

I'm not an idiot, i've worked with horses part time since i was 10 years old and full time since I left school (im nearly 21) and have a driving licence. Why can't i find anything?!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have British passport still? or Australian? Do you need a work permit?

If only here for 4 weeks hardly seems worth it. Just enjoy your hols and your family surely?:)

Oh and welcome to the forum.

I'm based in Scotland. :)

Flowerlady - I've been home 5 weeks already, and have till end Aug. Unfortunately my 3 sisters, who have been home have all gone off for work and i'm stuck at home with not a lot of money and not a lot of company as parents work full time.
I'd love some work just to tide me over a little.

You didn't say do you still have your british passport? If not you can't work over here as the fine is massive for the employers. If your looking for cash in hand better asking at the local pubs for casual work at busy times. There are alot of people out of work so you may not find anything.

Jobs are very few and far between I am afraid. Loads of people have lots their jobs this year and cant see it getting better anytime soon. So people are having to sell their horses so not much horse work around.

I had no idea the equestrian job market in the UK was so dire!! There are always yards looking for short-term staff in the summer, even if the pay is absolute peanuts or even if there's no wage and it's just work in return for accommodation & full board.

Register with www.careergrooms.co.uk and www.nagsnandnannies.co.uk - both work as equestrian employment agencies, Careergrooms will contact you via email with all their vacancies as they come in, and Nags&nannies will phone you if they get a job in that you may be suitable for.
