Where are all these wonderful ponies??

Slightly off topic but....

We have a 13.2hh mare who was backed earlier this year. She's a real sweetheart - hacks in company and alone, pops a small jump, well mannered etc, forward going without being silly. We're bringing her on to sell (a friend of OH saw her going feral in a field and wanted to give her a good start and home, so bought her and sent her to us). We don't have children and so, question is, what would you want a child's pony to have done? She's not ready to go yet as we've not had her out to a show and she's not seen too much traffic, simply because of where we are, and so we need to get those boxes ticked. But what else? OH's friend thinks she'll be a fabulous showjumping pony and perhaps she will, but I'm more concerned that she goes to a good home. Am tempted to get OH to break her to harness too so she's got more chance of a stable home - guess the issue with ponies is they do tend to get passed around. All suggestions welcome!!

I think it's important that they are regularly ridden by a child - when I was looking I was very suspicious of the ponies that were being ridden by teenager's, especially first/second ponies.

Put wanted adverts in your local tack shops/feed merchants that way you will find a pony locally who's true history and behaviour is known by the locals.

Wow thanks all, it's good to know I'm not alone! My daughter is a member of our local pony club and I have adverts up everywhere. I have had people contact me but yet again 'would be too much for her' is the end result when I explain what we're looking for. We don't want anything dead we just want SAFE!! My search goes on. We are Cambridgeshire area by the way

I will have one for sale in a couple of years haha!!

Completely agree noone wants a saf, bombproof pony anymore. People would prefer ribbons and looks.

when I was younger we used to do the most outragous things on ponies there was a thread about this. As I got older ponies definately changed for the worse. And at shows ponies are almost horse like!

Well I have posted a thread about trying to sell one of these paragons, and no one wanted her, they all wanted faster ponies-for total novices who could barely steer. These ponies are worth their weight in gold. Have found a good home for her now but was really surprised at the other silly parents......

I also have one of these wonderful ponies unfortunately nobody seems particularly interested in her (for loan only) because of her age (25) even though she's never caused me any woes whatsoever and never puts a foot wrong she's just not ready to retire yet!

Please take a look at Tubs' advert, don't be put off by her age. Shes 5 but you'd think she was 15! She is honestly fantastic and will make a child very happy. She is the type that you could take out on a hack all day, or to a show and come home covered in ribbons! She is really fun little pony that is happy on the lead rein plodding around and equally happy to safely carry a small rider round and give them confidence! She's a total star and definitely one in a million xxx

Thank you, I am in touch with tubs' seller she certainly looks adorable shame they are so far away. Waiting to see a video, she certainly has alot of fans!!

Ah thats fantastic. I am on the same yard as Binky01 and have had lots of cuddles with Tubs, we have loose jumped her and I have also ridden her round the yard bareback! She is a total star :-D xxx

Sometimes you find them in the most unlikely places. I have a pony with me on loan, who is fast and whizzy for an adult or teenager. Not a beginner's pony you'd think. Yet put a child on her, and she totally transforms. Her eyes soften, her gait slows and she turns into the sweetest, most maternal and loving creature ever - responsive to the slightest movement of her rider/handler, soft and gentle and totally reliable at all times.

Two horses like that at my yard- mine and another. Both fast and resposive and annoying for anyone experienced, but put my 11yo nervous sis on Molly and her head goes down , she stops immeadiately and never spooks. its adorable.
