Where are farriers needed?

ABERDEEN

i have been told by a few local farriers they are shoeing between 13 - 15 horses a day when most in other areas do max about 8, this is why none are keen to take on more clients, they are all ready struggling to meet the demand.

aberdeen area has the 2nd most amount of horses per head count after newmarket, but no where near the amount of farriers.

average cost is £60 per set.

there is plenty of demand and anyone moving here i doubt would more than a few weeks to get there books full.

my farrier moved from london for that reason, his books were full in two weeks

i am moving back to the uk in march and will be starting to shoe in april , i am currently hoping to settle in morecombe and cover the cumbria area , has any body else any ideas where to locate myself . i am coming over in february to see loads folk and to make my mind up for definite where i go

Please, please Aberdeenshire

As many farriers as possible to make supply and demand less and stop them treating us all like rubbish!

my farrier is in edinburgh and he now charges £70 a set (just went up at new year) the going rate is now between £65-£78 for a full set. there are quite a few farriers here though so he shoes between 2 - 6 horses a day? some times more, some times less. i know in fife its alot harder to get hold of farriers, same in perth, aberdeen and glasgow.

Aberdeen.

The whole North of Scotland has a farrier shortage but the Grampian region is particularly short, and while guys like Daffy, Alex, Ron, Billy & Billy are all great guys they are run ragged and have full diaries.

I don't think certain (not all ) North East farriers actually want to leave a bunch of owners sitting in the yard with horses for hours, no message, just not turning up and not getting them on the phone or txt message! But that is what happens and it is madly frustrating when it does!!!

There are others, but there are issue with some of them. Say no more.

One of the contributing things that drove me into the arms of the barefoot movement and starting to train as a trimmer was just that - the sheer disruptive pain in the backside of keeping shoes on all of them was too much.

So I took responsibility for their feet myself and I do my own trimming.

I'm In Watford, Hertfordshire and again there are a lot of farriers not many decent ones. For example my farrier charges £75 for a normal set (even ponies and yes he shoes ponies on my yard too) and his books are completley full to the point where a couple of months ago he actually had to turn work away! He puts bar shoes and gels on my horses fronts and normal with side clips on his hinds for £120 and thats evey 4 weeks, so expensive as there is simply no other farrier in the area at all that could come out to me to do the work (I literally rang 15 other people on the vets lists) so my whole yard uses him :).
